Gambler's Caves were over the top of the Coppice towards Hameldon, if I remember rightly. Basically, it was an old stone quarry with a couple of caves in it. The name came about because the spot was used for illicit gambling games, way back when. Always a bit of an eerie place, I thought.

Ive enquired with my dad as he is a bit of a rambler & i actually can see them from my house in the distance, he tells me they have now been filled up since they took the slate out of the hill for the motorway.

The reason I asked is that the quarry is now being worked again.

The Caves have gone, A bit of Accrington history gone!

If any of you do go up there to the Gambelers Caves be careful as the caves have been opened up again by the quarry men before they left the site and believe me they are extreamily dangerous

Been up to Gamblers today ...............what a mess
Rubbish and abandoned vehicles everywhere its a disgrace surely the guy who leases it should landscape the area unless theres still work to be done but it does look abandoned
