Seem to remember when I used to drop in occasionally in the mid-70's, it was a hotbed of Burnley fans. Names that spring to mind are Billy, tall moustachioed bloke, Les, a little guy and a pretty tough girl with long dark hair called Jean.

Yes it was. Only name that springs to mind for me was somebody called Gordon who seemed to arrange a lot of the away travel those days

Danny O sulllivan was his name. I think after he had it, Billy Potts from Burnley took it over for a brief spell. He used to have the Concorde pub on Burnley bus station what later became Sidewalk 54 I think. He also had the Coach & Horses in Burnley too. I knew Billy Potts. I once worked for him at the Concorde in Burnley ( I was doing him a favour at the time ) , what an experience that was. I went in the back room collecting glasses and got told off by some prostitute for being on her patch. I only worked behind the bar !:eek:

Concord in Burnley, now that was a place and half (bet dave will back me up on that) Played pool there a couple of times in the 70s, of all the pubs in Burnley that was by far the least memorable:rolleyes:

I'm just wondering now....i think because the camera lens tends to shorten things a bit...The OLd House At Home..was a bit further on....but as i said, it was extended in later years to become the Cock n Bull and then Corners...
If that bit on the end in the photo, didn't become part of the pub...because thats on the corner..surely that would give credence to the name " Corners "??...So i think Sue's hit on it really...the extension to the Old House at Home ...became Corners!!
Does that sound plausible?...****** i'm off to bed now...so hopefully someone will make sense of this tomorrow!!

Was the Concorde called the Inn Place at one time? If so, it's the most frightening pub I've ever been in, and I've been in some rough holes!

Talking to an old mate in the Read Club last night I mentioned my episode with the landlore of the Old House at Home, the one where he barred me for urinating on his head through the cellar grate.
Now my old mate is 83 and says the Old House at Home was on Church Street Clayton le Moors. We nearly got to blows (imagine us two old codgers slogging it out) over it and who ever loses the argument will buy the other a pint. Help me out I say it is the Old England Forever"

Not really old jaysay, but if the winter cold payments go above 72 I have no need to worry. In my head I am still only 22 though and earning my general service medal. Bring it on Makarios.

Yes it comes as a shock to me as well jaysay, especially after a few pints of Stella the night before, oh and a glass of Glayva for a night cap.
We never learn do we.

I got mixed up with a few old codgers in my one and only visit to the Tanpits club one afternoon and they FORCED 6 pints of Kronenburg 1664 down me, but for my wife telling me what a mess I looked two days after I wouldn't have remember much.

Obviously I am a weak willed when it comes to the consuming of alcohol but I did try to resist for as long as it took to answer yes to the question "Will you have another one Grem" to which I replied meekly "Yes, if you insist".

I tried telling that to my wife but she happened to be in the club with me.
She told me the taxi driver thought he had lost a passenger on the way home but realized I had slid down onto the floor of the car.

Do you know that in about 1947 I got a certificate for writing an essay about the evils of alcohol and the effects on the human body, a few years later I thought "If it is so bad let me get at it".
