I enjoyed the pic of the war memorial in Mercer Park; when I was a toddler my grandad told me that the angel was pointing out the way to the bog.
This was my grandad's sense of humor. I doubt that he meant any disrespect. He served with the King's Own in WW1 and was wounded and gassed. |

love the oldskool photos....i am only 15,....i was told barnes street was full of shops...dose any one have pictures of annie charls's shop or elsies bakery???
or the old co-op at the forts arms? |

Sorry have no photos Nikig ... gosh, how did you know about Annie Charles, etc., ? .. lived a few doors up from her shop, and her husbands next door. Remember Elsie's bakery too ... never took any pictures though ... what a shame.

I walked in 1949--1953 with St James Mission. I helped to carry the Banner and bloody hard work it was too
