They were the first travel agent in the Uk in 1874
Althams Travel Services. A fully independent UK travel agent.
so whatever was there before lasted 10 yrs.
I suggest some sort of a shipping agent for emigrants/trade to the Empire

cashman 09-01-2008 23:18

Re: Althams ?

would have guessed summat similar meself margaret, but its a no.:) they did after awhile start doing "trips" then became a travel agents, 1874 must have been the year they did, i actually asked in the shop if anyone knew, but none of em had a clue.

cashman 10-01-2008 10:07

Re: Althams ?

Yerself was the first to get it, Althams was in fact a T-Shop when it opened up, the travel came later and ran in conjuction with the Tea, until the last century (can prove 1899) dont know when exactly they ceased trading loose tea, Panther was unlucky 4 hrs too late:D yerself gets the Karma.;)

WillowTheWhisp 10-01-2008 12:07

Re: Althams ?

Well fancy that. What a divergence to make from tea to travel.
