Althams ?
read an interesting snippet the other day, does anyone know what Althams on little blackburn road opened up as in 1864? one guess per day, karma for the one who gets it first, p.s. i never knew.:)

They were the first travel agent in the Uk in 1874
Althams Travel Services. A fully independent UK travel agent. so whatever was there before lasted 10 yrs. I suggest some sort of a shipping agent for emigrants/trade to the Empire |

would have guessed summat similar meself margaret, but its a no.:) they did after awhile start doing "trips" then became a travel agents, 1874 must have been the year they did, i actually asked in the shop if anyone knew, but none of em had a clue.

Yerself was the first to get it, Althams was in fact a T-Shop when it opened up, the travel came later and ran in conjuction with the Tea, until the last century (can prove 1899) dont know when exactly they ceased trading loose tea, Panther was unlucky 4 hrs too late:D yerself gets the Karma.;)

Mmmm all greats are from Burnley eh?
Not sure how true it is but I heard a long time back that Todmorden has more Nobel prize winners than anywhere else. Anyone else heard owt similar? |
