Dunkenhalgh Estate - tunnel ??

Hello,

I am new to this site and I am not from Hyndburn. My name is John Petre an I live in Slaidburn on the Easington estate. My ancestors are originally from Accrington and owned the Dunkenhalgh estate, after the death of my late father I recently came across a few documents in a locked box in the Easington estate archives.

There was an accounting and finance report detailing the construction of a tunnel across the Dunkenhalgh estate to a hunting lodge and hand written book or diary which talked often of the Hammonds and Hargreaves family to who my great great great grandfather Henre Petre bequeathed the entire estate and its assets.

Does anybody have any information about these documents or evidence to support them.

Kind Regards
John Petre KtGC

From what I remember, Tealeaf has spoken about this when a few of us accywebbers have had a bit of a gathering but I can't remember him actually posting anything about it.
You could P.M. him and ask what he knows about it I'm sure he'll help.

Thanks, i have just had a flick through the diary i found and on april the 1st 1867 there is an entry regarding an amalgamtion with the 20,000 hectacre bowland estate and Viscount Hammonds the 2nd.

Does anybody no where i coud obtain photgraphs or plans on the estate grounds as these are sadly lacking from our archives.

I appears that the other thread has been deleted by the mods.
It was in that thread that the same originator of this thread spoke of his links with Chelmswood.

There are already Petre documents held by the Lancashire Record Office, which is the proper place for these to be.Discuss depositing them with the LRO, Bow Lane, Preston. Visit Lancashire Lantern and A2A websites.
