Simla St. Accy

Does anyone know where Simla St in Accrington used to be?
I am researching my family history and a relative was born there in 1909.
Cheers

I've never heard of that. Is it handwritten on a document? Could it possibly be something else?

Busman says "Could it be something simla?"
:D

Tee Hee busman!

I don't know if its been taken from a handwritten document, my copy is printed. She was baptised at Sacred Heart as were all her siblings, so I'm thinking that she would have lived in the parish.

Willow has a good point ..lots of records were handwritten and misinterpreted .. e.g. researching my father's side of the family, the surname was recorded differently for 3 generations with different spelling.

Suspect was probably something like Swiss Street or Lima Street.

There is no such street in Accrington.
When I joined the Fire Brigade there were a number of old log books and records of Accrington streets and hydrants, dating back to pre 1900, which I enjoyed reading, we all had to know the streets, roads and back alleys, not just for Accrington but Church, Clayton, Gt Harwood, Rishton and Oswaldtwistle, we also had 839 farms, smallholdings and isolated properties in our turnout area as well, which covered an area of 90 square miles. Even turned out to fires as far as Trafford Park, Lancaster, Morcambe and Preston, so you had to know your way around.

Have you looked at the baptism record? That may tell you where she lived when she was born.

If you can get access to a Barrett's directory you will probably find you relatives ( you didn't give us a name) - try Accrington Library. They may also have Voter's Lists If so, try Swiss and Lina, as Katex suggests. I agree with her.Try China too.

Well my money is on Lima Street Bob .. if you do the fancy joined-up writing they did 100years ago ...a fancy 'L' could look so much like an 'S' .. and a fancy 'a' at the end could become an 'l and a' .. :D

Aaw shucks Bagpuss, you right. Was looking at an old map of Accrington, and did look like an 'm' .. but on closer inspection is an 'n' .. maybe had an ancestor who was a registrar .. LOL.

Back to the drawing board again.
