Bash WMC

I am proposing to put a photo of a man , perhaps he was the steward, standing at the door of Bash Working men's Club, into a book I am going to publish. The club was in Hilll Street .I want to know more about it - when did it open, when did it close etc.Did the steward live above?

Do you mean Bullough Row, at the junction of Hollins Lane and Manchester Rd, where the eck would a working mens club be down there, nowt but cottages and allotments. The only other building was George Bullough's old house, used to be further down than the cottages.

Definitely Hill Street. First on the right going from Manchester Rd.There is still evidence of the club on the outside of what is now a house - cellar dooer, pulley for lifting barrels, ironwork of the old sign. You will be able to see the photo in the new book, due out mid-November - 'Accrington Acclaimed'
