any suggestions as to the use? Take a look when next in town - stand in front of the Market Hall, almost facing Church Street. Look across towards what was once known as Bridges Corner - there is now a shop selling drawers etc. on the corner (has the name Stylistics over the door) Cast your eyes upwards - look along the stonework to the right and you will see about 3 of these ........ hell used to deliver to "branded lines" which was yon early/mid 60s, have fallen out the commercial market room more times than "Soft Mick" n never noticed them, will look n wonder.:D

KATEX!!! Well done! Such good guesses off everyone. When first pointed out to me, I had thought something to do with cables for trams, but .... Katex is 100% correct! For flag poles! Well done!
