Evening stroll by Platts Lodge
3 Attachment(s)
Hi, went for a walk with doggie on Tues by Platts Lodge. What an amazing place this now is. Anyone a bit bored and needs a new doggie walking area - trust me - go to the top of St James Street, where you can see the new Council offices on your left - just walk by the side of the new Waterside flats and you will be AMAZED!
A bit of old Accrington thats truly changed! Atarah |
Re: Evening stroll by Platts Lodge
Not to bad for fishing either (Bit bashing), NO LICENCE REQUIRED (Apart from a rod licence if you believe in this).
Pulled a 1 to 2 Lb Carp out last summer. |
Re: Evening stroll by Platts Lodge
I have heard that the area is popular with drunks and druggies - incredible that they have such good taste too.

Lovely photos, I think the cast iron columns carried the railway to Baxenden

Re: Evening stroll by Platts Lodge
I have been away for 58 years now and cannot imagine hwereabouts Platt's Lodge could be. I remember the baths, Scaitliffe colliery, the bridge and the H & B, but not Platt's Lodge. Please could you enlighten me?

Re: Evening stroll by Platts Lodge
Thanks wadey, On my occasional trips back home I have never ventured that far out of the centre, so that is why I am not aware of all the other changes. On my last trip, i did see that my old home in Lonsdale St had been demolished :-(((

Re: Evening stroll by Platts Lodge
Yes, we used to play on the sides of this lodge........our parents would have gone nuts if they had known, it was forbidden........and I can remember one young boy losing his life in those waters.......many many moons ago!

Re: Evening stroll by Platts Lodge
Is it actually free fishing there?

Re: Evening stroll by Platts Lodge
Only things that spoil the walk down there are the dog muck, the drunks, druggies and just obnoxious youths (who stop everyone and either ask for money or cigs) or on a couple of occasions when I have been down there have tried to rob people, so if anyone goes down late on in the day be very careful.
