Peel park public house
 

Hi, high on the wall of this pub, above the doorway, is a "niche" - an area where once stood a statue of Sir Robert Peel. Apparently it disappeared many years ago.

An old newspaper cutting from 1978 quotes someone as saying when the pub was having a re-paint, prior to the end of the Accrington Stanley Football Club, the painters noticed that the stonework on the statue was corroding, and so it was taken down for safety reasons.

Anyone know anthing about it?
