Old Accrington puzzler

Hi - if you walk along Victoria Street, from Nuttall Street end, about half way along, you pass a building on your right hand side (roughly across from what used to be the velvet factory). High up, on the rear of the building, can be seen this "balcony" with the name BIBBY on it. Any ideas who this firm was?

I think you should look in the local trade directory's round about 1950. That is a fire escape and it was possibly installed because of the new fire regulations which came in around that time. Remember they had to have one installed at the back of the Con Club, whose name is on that one.

A lot of new fire escapes and fire safety doors were installed in places that employed more than 10 people around that time.

Nowt to do with Bibby's Bros Shipping.

Retlaw.
