Lots of questions here, where is it, what did it lead to recently, what did it lead to in the past?

It's Broad Oak Rd I think.The track would have led up to the college. I don't know whether that's past or recent.

Just of manchester road, neax to ambalance station, leads up to the college, could it of lead to the house thats now a nursery/school (Heathlands) in its day?

Bank House is SPOT ON!

WELL DONE!

BUT IT ALSO LED TO ANOTHER HOUSE AS MR D SAYS - he is correct in that it is now Heathlands College, but .. what was its original name?

Hi Bagpuss, yes indeed, Broad Oak House it was. That must have meant the horse and carriages from times past could have been calling at either Bank House or if it continued up the track, would reach Broad Oak House - The original house was built in 1834 by John Hargreaves but was replaced in 1899 for Sir George Macalpine (this is now Heathlands). He was a Scottish engineer who became head of Altham Collieries and Accrington Brick & Tile Co.

See, there are lots of bits of old Accrington left, if you just know what they are. A few of these from the original coach road leading to Broad Oak House are still on view around the college site in Accrington.

I once worked with a man who walked his dog in that area.
He once told me of a chilling event that happened when he was sheltering from rain in the entrance to an old building.
The sound of a coach and horses which approached him and stopped right in front of him- not visible - just audible

I've heard that one too Margaret, some one was talking about the in the Hargreaves Arms a few years ago when I was a regular there

He told me of it in the early 60s - maybe several people have had the same experience.

What is puzzling is, in this day and age, how does anyone know the sound of a coach and horses ?

Probably sheltering from the rain under a tin roof ... :D
