where was it, and just to make it harder,
when was it demolished, and why.

It was a woman who lived in the bottom house.
The end house at the Grange lane end, was an up and downer, as opposed to back to back.

Houses are numbered from the town center, then from the nearest main rd, odd numbers on the left, even numbers on the right. so number 1 would be at the top on the right of the picture..
Theres a but in all this, Accrington used to consist of two towns Old & New, some of the houses in New Acc were numbered from Abbey St, because Abbey St was the Market St, so the houses on Black Abbey St, Oak St and Warner St, at one time were numbered the opposite way, to the way they are numbered today.

That house in Culvert St, at the Grange Lane end had two occupants, one was know as Betty downstairs and the other was Betty upstairs.

And to answer Margaret. Betty upstairs had porridge for breakfast ever other day.:theband:

Facetiousness apart .. briliant stuff Retlaw.

Had just noticed under the missing voters a George Morrison No. 1 Culvert Street was listed ... so he would be at the top then, and no relation to the 2 Bettys. Taking it that No. 1 was from the nearest main road then ?
