Mansion Street
 

I often pass this house, think I have got the street name correct? Its just off Plantation Street. Its such a large house, far bigger than the rest on the street, sadly not occupied at the moment.
Wondering if anyone knows any tales about it?

Its in a right state.

I put a bid in to buy this property probably over 2-3 years ago, the type where you put a offer on a piece of paper and the highest at the end gets it.

Look like whoever won has done nothing, such a waste.:mad:

I seem to recall this property only a few years back seemed to appear to be like a mini Haworth Art Gallery inside. You know when its dark nights and a house is lit up and you cant help but be "drawn" to looking in through the windows. I remember seeing lots of paintings on the walls, seemingly in old type "gold" frames.
Shame its empty because it appears to be rather a good sized property.

I too remember it like that, been empty a while now though and when I looked inside it, it needed a very lot of work doing to it.

It is a shame as like you say the property is HUGE.

I recall someone saying at one time it was like a care home of some kind, not sure if that true though.

It's always been used as a house, although it's been empty for awhile now.The Council owned the house, and got an income from it. The Council at one time owned several properties in Accrington, which came into Council ownership after reorganisation in 1974. Most of them have now been sold off.

We were looking at the possibility of using the house for some kind of community centre, but we couldn't raise the money.

It needs to be brought back into some kind of use. It's shame to leave it empty.

They would love you round there if you made it a community centre.:D

So they didnt sell in on the 23rd Feburary 2007? After the auction.

When I say community centre, more an advise centre for the area.Very much along the lines of the Neighborhood Management Office on Nuttall St, which is opened 3 days a week.

I'm not sure about the up to date position in relation to ownership of the property. I could do with finding out were we are with that.

This picture was taken during the 1960's floods, looks like the same house to me.

Glad you liked the photo Atarah.

I’ve attached the only other photo that I could find of the flood; sadly it’s of the same house, although it does show the face of the young lad who has his back to us in the first picture.

The people in the photos are trying to divert the water away from their cellars.

By the way I haven’t got a clue who the people in the photo are; maybe someone out there may recognise themselves!!

Hi, thanks again for the smashing photo. What is your connection? Think it was actually July 1964 when the floods hit Accrington and surrounding districts.

probably another propertyy shark trying to bring the area down or a housing benefit fraud:confused: why leave it empty what is hyndburn council doing about all the empty properties in hyndburn.funny i dont seee very many empty properties up here but when i was in accy there was loads does anybody have the exact figures of how many long term empty properties in hyndburn and who owns them.maybe one of hyndburns councillors can shed some light , why there is so many empty properties in hyndburn:confused::confused::confused:
