Mid-week head scratcher
1 Attachment(s)
This is a bit grand for a back view. Anyone know where this fine mid-Victorian pile is, and what is the connection with Gothic House on St James' Street?

Platts
I think its the rear of Platts furniture shop of Abbey Street. Originally a solictors belonging to the chappie who had Gothic House built. Cant just think of him name this minute, but he was quite a "dandy" character.

Drat! I was expecting quite a long run on this one. The coconut goes to Atarah. Well spotted chuck. Wasn't the Solicitors surname Taylor?

Rear of Building in Queen Street, Accrington
Have remembered now! Charles Hall - that was his name!! He was a solicitor in Accrington in the 1850's and was one of the best known characters of the time. He was known for his way of dressing - a white elaborate waistcoat, thick gold rimmed glasses, his elaborate dangling fob watch, his big slouch hat and his umbrella - a somewhat striking figure! He was known as "old Charles Hall". He built Gothic House (a few years back this was Accrington's Tourist Information) - he also built offices in Queen Street, off Abbey Street. This is what you can see in the photo.
