Save this Building please!!!!

53 King St is a Georgian Townhouse built in the 1780's.It is situated on the junction of King St & Montague St. The local council wish to demolish this building in order to make way for an unnecessary road. The building is grade2 listed and has been since 1987. Council owned and bordered up the council intend to leave this building in a state of disrepair until there is no other alternative but to demolish it. The interior of this property is almost fully intact including the original laster mouldings on the ceilings.Istis on the edge of a conservation area where other Georgian proprties have been renovated while the council are prepared to allow this building to be lost for all time.

I think it looks ugly - how many of these 'mansions' are preserved already? - one more down won't be missed.

I usually support the saving of old buildings but in this case I have to say it should have been demolished years ago and who wants it anyway? No parking, prostitutes and druggies hanging round all day, no thank you

Since it is in Blackburn, likely not.

Now now Maggy, no need to be sarcy. For your information Church & Oswaldtwistle magistrates court was on King Street in Blackburn, at least it was when I got done for a minor motoring offence. My mates thought they would come and poke fun at me from the laughing gallery, I had the last laugh though, I was back in Ossy in the Rose and Crown before them. They only turned up at Blackburn magistrates on Northgate and missed the proceedings.

Nah get rid, if there is enough people wanting to save it then maybe they should be paying to get it renovated too as it has been an eyesore for years!

It's location doesn't do anything for wanting to save it either as it is slap bang in the middle of red light district as well as mostly industrial area although there are residential flats close by

If the building was still in its glory then I'd probably be supporting the need to keep it - but it looks derelict and no one seems to be taking care of it, so it's probably better to knock it down and get rid of an eyesore.

I was actually in a cab the other week, and had a conversation about the beautiful doorway to this house.

However, we live in a commercial world, and if no one wants to renovate the building, I can't see there being much support to find public money to save it.

I really don't like the Facebook group you gave a link to.

In the discussion section someone, who obviously disagreed with you, has had their posts deleted, leaving just your replies, in which you are nasty, rude, abusive, wrote appalling English, full of atrocious spelling mistakes, and are patronising, and in many cases, completely wrong.

I won't therefore be joining your little band of 'eritage warriors.

I might start a counter group, mustering support to turn the place into a drop in centre for local crack whores.

You'll be most welcome to pop in and join us.

Donna thnx for your support it is very much appreciated. there will be regular updates on this building & i will be devoting some of my time when i finish my uni course in the nxt 2-3 wks in to fighting its case. I too am appauled i'm a working Decorator by trade & can see exactly what this could be if given the right attention. I will also be posting some more of my own drawn visuals of the interior as soon as i get them back frombeing framed. I am currently studying Interior design at Blackburn & have chosen this building for my major project & will be fighting like hell to retain this important piece of our heritage. Thanx again'

'Donna Obviously with your limited knowledge of history, heritage & architecture it is qiute clear you have no understanding of anything that is going on with regards to this building. Your arguement more roads less accidents doesnt stand up actually you have a limited knowledge of all things political & planning. more roads = more cars = more pollution (QED). This council also has a mandate to make Blackburn a greener place in terms of environmental impact so once again your arguement falls flat with regards to more roads. When you say about demolishing it & having the power you lack a little in the grey matter IT'S A LISTED BUILDING!!!!!! the questions you need to ask are Who listed it? And why was it listed in the first place? But you wouldnt know because you know nothing about this building & its history. But there again with only your A+ GCSE in History i wouldnt have expected anything else cause they dont teach you the value of Heritage & sustainibility in that subject.'

Ugly. It has the architectural merit of a lego brick.
Going off the facebook comments,if ouber and friends want to jump on the English Heritage bandwagon perhaps they should start with the English and move onto the Heritage bit when they've mastered that.

I thought I'd read several weeks ago that objections were overturned and the planners had now decided to demolish. I suppose the only question now remaining is which will go down first - the building or the football club a mile or so south.

The road is going ahead, even if it was saved and renovated who would want it, surrounded by druggies and prostitutes, no parking and hundreds of empty offices in far nicer locations !
