More Railings

These delightful late victorian cast iron railings were cunningly disguised and thus saved from the wartime collectors. But where are they??

The first coconut goes to Less.

The railings are at the front of the mock tudor house sandwiched between Antley methodists and the dentists.

Oh, Har har har!

Whoever lived at the house decided to cover them over with with larch-lap panels, thus concealing them from the collectors. I suppose it is a tribute to their durability that it is only in the last few years that they have deteriorated. One can only assume that this concealment was done on purpose, since it would have been easy to alert the collectors when they were in the area. Does anyone know if the house is connected in any way to Antley Methodist Church?

I remember those panels from years ago when the Antley Dentists used to be Bury's, I've more than likely used them to hold me up after a night out in the Oak Tree or the Queens, but that's going back a while.
I always thought the house was where the Vicar lived but I might be wrong.

Vicarage

Thoughts on paper, is that black and white house not the vicarage for Church Kirk. Dont ask me why I say this, I just seem to have something at the back of my mind. I could therefore be quite wrong.

You might have something there, Atarah.

Bagpuss: I don't think Methodists have vicars, do they?

This site has the house in question, 434 Blackburn Rd, listed as Church Kirk Rectory

I don't know what they have either. But I'll tell you what they did have.

I was looking at some pics of processions in the 1920's on Blackburn Road this afternoon and the original Antley Methodists was huge! Very impressive italianate facade. All stained as black as the fire back of course. I wonder why they knocked it down?

Here is a photo of Antley. As you say A-B, a very impressive building.
