Stunning mid-Victorian lamp standard.
The first one with the location and an explanation takes the coconut.

Mm, you are getting too good with your photo quizzes my friend!!!! Haven't a clue, but am trying to think where that stone walling in the background could be. Why does Whalley Road, Oak Lea area, spring to mind?

Explanation for what? Why it hasn't been replaced by something modern? Is it in the vicarage grounds or something and not council property?

Why it is there and why it is so ornate and why it is the only one of it's type. There must be a reason!

Guessing here, maybe something to do with the opening of Mercer Park, when they maybe "improved" the surrounding area, ready for the official opening day????????

Dunno if there was a Royal Visit, just guessing :) but looking at the photo of the crowds at the main gate, it surely was a big event!
