Accrington Library and its building work

1 Attachment(s)
Since April this year, Accrington Library has had scaffolding around the outside of the building. There has been a long standing problem with dry rot in what used to be the wonderful LOCAL STUDIES DEPARTMENT (and the storage rooms behind). The two rooms were completely emptied in preparation for the work and the stock has been carefully relocated in other parts of the building to ensure it remains fully accessible to the public whilst repairs are carried out. A new roof is also planned for the building.

The work is expected to continue until December, and plans are in place for the Community History resources to be moved back into the same area when the rooms are ready.

The sooner the better!

Too late to withdraw funding for that now, its now over 4 years since it was first applied for, then several organisations had to be consulted and stick their oar in. Work was supposed to have started in 2009, but as usual the bodies involved had to argue who was the most important.
A final deadline was April this year, at the speed which things progress when you have a committee of qualified incompetents it will be about 2012 before its finished. Then comes the next committee meeting to decide how it will be used, and by whom, what will be kept etc etc.

Yeh, believe it has gone on for a long time.

You don't know whether a lick of paint for the Lecture Room is included do you Lurch ? That's looking really dismal these days.
