Brocklehouse, Accrington, 1896

Does anyone recognise this house? Does anyone recognise this artist - T Duckworth? He painted this in 1896. I am intrigued. This was found when a relative was clearing the house of a deceased relative.

Sue, this photo is already up on another thread? I throught Retlaw had included an actual photo of the sketch? Where does it say it was painted in 1896. I would have guessed it was done by one of the talented Accrington Art School pupils in the 1930's.

Re: Brocklehouse, Accrington, 1896
Hi Atarah,
It says, if you enlarge it, that it was painted in 1896 and it also says the artists name. I tried to put it on the Dean Cronshaw site but failed and then realised I had actually succeeded on the 3rd attempt - sorry! My computer skills are not great I am afraid. I imagine, however, that this is a better place for it. I have never heard of Brocklehouse - does anyone happen know anything about it? Sue |
Re: Brocklehouse, Accrington, 1896
Since no one seems to know of this place and the family are quite interested to know about it, I wonder if anyone can tell me the name of the local newspaper and I will see if I can get them to publish it. It may be quite interesting because it is so old and I understand Duckworth is a common name in Lancashire.

Gosh Sue, the request has only been on since this morning! I can help, but I've been out working all day so not got my local history books to hand! Just hang on a few days. Retlaw will probably reply when he's next on anyway.

I understand I may have contravened your website regulations by using imageshack.us to put this on - this was not my intention and I apologise.

This is what I posted on the other thread.
Retlaw. Attached Thumbnails http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/a...ller-size-.jpg http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/a...t-cottage..jpg Heres a photograph of Brocklehurst Cottage. History of Accrington names it as Brock Hole Hurst. Meaning the Badger Hole in the Wood. |
