The shop opposite the bottom of Avenue Parade next to the Post Office. Abbey something or other. They do school uniforms. Used to be a cinema.

|
Re: I know where that is, it's......?

Closer. A wander round Ossy might give you some clues.
|
Re: I know where that is, it's......?
Palladium...................
|
Re: I know where that is, it's......?
Foxhill Bank Brow (Bank)? Paladium? Bank opposite Town Hall? or T'howed Fire Station (Hippins Vale)?
Only guesses...Don't reall know!! |
Re: I know where that is, it's......?
You've got it Darby...it's the old bank building as you enter Ossy going up Union Road.
|
Re: I know where that is, it's......?
The old Nat West?????????? Brilliant Darby! I'd totally forgotten that building.
|
Re: I know where that is, it's......?
Since that was a joint effort - - - - you can all have a coconut each. Well done!
|
Re: I know where that is, it's......?
Civic theatre, Ossy is my guess
|
Re: I know where that is, it's......?
It's already been guessed Carole. It was the old Nat West bank in Union Rd.

Re: I know where that is, it's......?
Perhaps I should have been more precise. It is the Old Bank Opposite the former Town Hall in Union Road. Does that clear it up?
|
Re: I know where that is, it's......?
OOoh and there was me thinking it was the Nasty West.

Re: I know where that is, it's......?
Now you've got me confused, err ...ummm ...ahhhh.... weeeelllll....................
Yes! Nat West, opposite the Civic Theatre, that used to be Ossy Town Hall before HBC got their grubby mits on it, on Union Road, Oswaldtwistle. Darby, Tealeaf and Willow are the joint winners and they each get a coconut. Does that help? |
Re: I know where that is, it's......?
You're definatly confused, A-B.....there were (amongst others) two banks on the right hand side going up Union Road...the first one was the old Midland Bank, which was the red brick building which is now in residential use. That is the one built in 1913, and that is the one in your picture. it's on the corner of Foxhill Brow. The second one, opposited the old Ossy town hall/civic theatre and on the corner of Straits, was the earlier, stone faced, National Provincial/Nat West bank and that is now currently used as a private gym. That is not the one in your picture.......
|
Re: I know where that is, it's......?
My brain hurts!
I thought A-b's photo was (and it is) the bank as was at the corner of Foxhill Bank but where I got myself confused was in thinking that was the old Nat West when it wasn't! So in a way I was right and wrong both at the same time. I knew it wasn't the one that is now a gym but I didn't think that one was the Nat West and that's where I got confused. I think. lol |
Re: I know where that is, it's......?
well at least we can all bank on it!!

Right! Look at the map. The Bank I took the Photo of is the one opposite the Town Hall.
It is not now, nor ever has been, the one at the corner of Foxhill Bank Brow. That is older than the one I took the photo of. And I think I am an authority on this, since I was behind the camera at the time and my memory isn't that defective yet, despite what Mrs.Acrylic Bob might claim to the contrary.:D |
Re: I know where that is, it's......?
So, was it in fact the old Nat West after all?
|
Re: I know where that is, it's......?
If Nat West was the one opposite the Town Hall, then yes it was.
|
Re: I know where that is, it's......?
A-B.....have you, by any chance, got a wider shot of the bank, rather than just the datestone? I'm still not convinced........
|
Re: I know where that is, it's......?
Sorry mate, I only took the close up, you will just have to take my word for it that it is where I say it is. If I find myself in that neck of the woods in the next few days I will do the full 'photo essay' thing.
|
Re: I know where that is, it's......?
I'm getting confused again
|
Re: I know where that is, it's......?
What are you confused about luv?
|
Re: I know where that is, it's......?
It's like I was saying to Doug a few weeks ago - after a certain age the brain cells start to drop off.................
|
Re: I know where that is, it's......?
I'm not. A-B's wrong and I'm right.
|
Re: I know where that is, it's......?
I feel the urge to visit Union Rd.:blink8:
|
Re: I know where that is, it's......?
Go on...do it while the light's still available. You can be there and back in 20 minutes...you only need to visit the top of Foxhill Bank Brow:rolleyes:
|
Re: I know where that is, it's......?
Right, that's it, I am off up Union Road tomorrow morning.

Here you are then, I walked all the way to Ossy from Huncoat this morning just to get these pics.
The first one contains the image of a vagrant in the foreground who would not go away no matter how abusive I was. I don't think he had seen a camera before. Image no.4 is the bank at Foxhill Bank Brow, please not the date stone reads 1900. |
Re: I know where that is, it's......?
Oh Great! you go to the trouble of loading them all in order and the bloody upload programme jumbles them all up again, triffic! As you are looking at them from left to right the first one is Foxhill Bank Brow, the third one is the overall scene and no.s 2 and 4 are close ups.
|
Re: I know where that is, it's......?
It's a wonder we didn't bump into each other A-b because I also went up there taking photos! :D Hang on a minute and I'll post mine! Just need to shrink em a bit first.
I think it was the old Nat West because I think the Foxhill one was the other one but if anyone knows any better I'll be happy to be corrected. I think what confused certain persons not a million miles from this thread is the fact that although the front of the building is made of dressed stone, the rear is red brick. |

Let's see what order these come out in.
|
Re: I know where that is, it's......?
Looks like a minor memory failure on my part....still, allowable in the cicumstances.I wonder what they stuck the datestone round the back for, where people can't see it?
I'm glad you both enjoyed the walk up Ossy and I've no doubt you both appreciated the exercise. I'm just wondering if you may have checked out that gym...what's it like? Do you know what the rates are & what equipment they have. It's just a shame you did'nt get a closer piccy of that lamp post....you don't see many like that these days.....maybe you could pop back over there this afternoon and take another piccy. Oh, and make some enquiries at the gym as well.........................;) |
Re: I know where that is, it's......?
OK, first one there is Foxhill Bank Brow, second one is a closer view of the date stone area on that. Third one is the date stone which A-b first posted as the question. Fourth one is the ex-bank he says it belongs to and last one is a side view of that bank showing the location of the very date stone.
I'm not sure what my brain cells are doing this week Doug. I'm not even sure what date it is half the time. It would have been funny if that "vagrant" had turned out to be Busman, he was up there with me. :D |

Re: I know where that is, it's......?
That was in answer to the previous question - no I didn't check out the gym. I'm too busy having cramp in my leg!
|
Re: I know where that is, it's......?
If you went to the gym you would'nt get as much cramp...
|
Re: I know where that is, it's......?
The cramp is due to a limp which is due to a sore toe which is due to...............:D
|
Re: I know where that is, it's......?

|
Re: I know where that is, it's......?

I'II hold my hand up for backing Tealeaf, I was wrong too, I'd never even noticed a date stone around the back or even the red bricks.
