Question time

IF, and I repeat, IF, we were able to have our own Museum in this town, would any of our members have anything from "past times" which they would be prepared to donate? Its just that its been discussed recently at the Civic Trust meetings.

I could start off with ............ a very old EWBANK sweeper, a TAYWIL mangle, a couple of old Accrington High School exercise books, a couple of "clocking in coins" from Howard & Bullough, an old street sign. A cousin of mine has an old wooden printing block from Broad Oak Printworks. It was her grandfathers. She now uses it as a door stop, whether she would be prepared to donate is another matter, but ....

There are still quite some interesting items behind the scenes at The Haworth Art Gallery. These every now and then are put on public display.

A local lad, ex musician from the 60's, turns out to be the great nephew of a man renowned for his skills in woodwork. Mr John (Johnny) Nolan was a market trader in Accrington for over thirty years (Accrington Market Hall) but was also a distinguished amateur sculptor and artist in wood. Maybe his g/nephew would "loan" some of his works, if asked! There is a "marble bust" I believe in Bash Con Club, which is also his work. Think its of Winston Churchill.

What I am saying is, I bet, between us, we could probably fill a room!!!!

Re: Question time

We could try and contact some of the noted Accringtonians, we've unearthed on here, and the artists, and see if they would be prepared to loan/donate anything of interest.

Re: Question time

Would it be an Accrington town museum, or a Borough of Hyndburn one?

No, just wondered if it would need to be called that, if the council were involved.

Accrington museum sounds better.

It very much has it's own identity, and history.

I think it's a wonderful idea if there was some sort of museum again.

Now we have to think of WHERE we could have a Museum, and then see if there is any money about to fund one. I would like just one of the rooms in The Haworth!

What sort of things would you be looking for? I have some odd bits from lovelace soap, H&B and Rileys amongst others. Would have to consider very carefully before committing to donate though...
