Accrington history question.
 

I have a story about Accrington which I tried to research on the web with no luck so I decided to ask the experts!!!!

Here goes:
A member of the Peel family lived in a house at the bottom of the coppice and had avenue parade and peel street constructed as a route to St James church, also Annie, William and Robert street were named after his children.

Any of this sound true or was I definitely not listening in my history class!!

You WERE listening to your history teacher! Yep, we have the amazing ACCRINGTON HOUSE, home of the Peel family. Part of Avenue Parade was the driveway, and yep, they did construct a road to get them to St James Church. It was around the Clarendon St/Oswald St area of town. And yes, those street names, over Burnley Road area, ARE named after Peel children.

Not often Atarah's reyt, but she is spot on this time. One day I will discover just how Dowry St is linked to the Peels.They had massive influence in the choice of the street names on that section of the town - See the Street Names thread.
