Professional Photographers 1840-1940
I have a book which lists professional photographers in Lancashire 1840-1940. I have just come across a name I have never seen before :-
Martin George HABERER 17 Barnes St, Acc 1868-1872 These dates show when he is known to have been trading. This is very early. I suspect he traded fropm home rather than in a shop/studuio. 17 was near to the chapel, on the right looking from Abbey St. |
Re: Professional Photographers 1840-1940
Our grandfather William Blackledge was a founder member of the Preston camera club we have donated a lot of his negatives (glass) 1902 Preston guild to the Preston library as they where getting scratched and they needed saving.

By chance, this morning I need to phone a member of that club's committee. I will tell her. Getting members of the cvlub to convert them for digital sto rage may be the best way to ensure they don't get left in a box as has happened with so many libraries. They haven;'t the dosh to pay for it to be done professionaly.
I've just found another :- William Henry Hallworth, Blackburn Rd, Church 1913-26. My grandmother was a Hallworth from Gt Harwood. |

Re: Professional Photographers 1840-1940
I'm not aware of any Butterfields in my oline, but can put you in touch with so9me relatives who9 priobably can. Near my gt grandfather's grave in Gt Harwood cemetery is another Hallworth grave. Send me a PM with your email adfdress.
I recently was given a pile of photos of the Victorian/Eedwardian era, all taken in Accrington studios, along with some taken in Settle/Skipton/Bentham studios. No names to the photos, which are probably all of one family, quite well to do. The photos are reported to have been found in a skip in Bispham. |
Re: Professional Photographers 1840-1940
Notice quite a lot of people used Moffitt's Art Studio on Church Street, Bob, and says 'also at Burnley'.
Not individuals, I know. |
Re: Professional Photographers 1840-1940
Robert Moffitt traded in Church St from 1894 to the 1950s. Also at 105 Manchester Rd, Burnley 1908-33 (at least). The firm was also called Moffitt Brothers 1915-39 (& perhaps later) , also in Church St.
