This is a wonderful video. The Council should "adopt" it!

there's a lotta bricks gone into them there buildings :D

until you watch something like that you don't actually realise how nice the architecture is in a town, Accrington has some beautiful buildings

Re: Excellent video showing accrington

There may be a lot of bricks in those buildings but the frontages are all stone. Amazing for a town that made bricks that this should be so. However, the town centre probably wouldn't have been so attractive if they had let the bricks show.

And think about all the terraced houses - how many of those are made of brick?

Technically it is not a video it is a series of still shots, copied with a videocam, three of those scenes have people on them, and they are not moving.

An excellent, sanitised view of the town's historic architecture - minus the rubbish, the dogdirt and the mosque!

Just borrowing an ounce of your pedantry dust Retlaw: technically a video is a series of still shots projected at speed to trick the eyes and mind into perceiving movement.

Thank you for our confirmaton that what we were shown was not a true video, just a series of still shots, with th use of zoom in, and slight pan.

And thanks of course to Atarah for sharing the "audio visual" experience with us all.

What a load of absolute crap. Yes, there are some beautiful buildings, built probably before Nori became into common use. The architecture is exceptional, but look at the Con Club now and weep (such a shame, having spent a lot of my youth in there).
None of the ghettos shown, or even Blackburn Rd car park.
The only thing missing was Alistair Campbell doing a commentary - he did all the spin for Blair so why not have him do this.
Presume it was taken early Sunday morning before the yobs starterd to congregate in the Town Centre.

You want ghettos Barrie? You want urban neglect? Have a look at this.

I see the ghettos most days that I go into town. Along with the number of closed, dilapidated shops throughout the town, empty buildings that are rotting away. It is a very misleading video and does not give a true picture of our town, perhaps I notice it more because I lived away for almost 50 years.
I don't know who produced or commissioned the video but it certainly does not provide a true picture of the town.

I think we can safely assume Graham Jones isn't a Tory MP and doesn't have much time for Tory councils- he does labour(get it?) the point a bit.
However, it is terrible what has been allowed to happen to Woodnook( and other areas?)- I remember it as a very attractive area.
Was this redevelopment plan started by the new council or by the old Tory one? It seems to have been going on for some time.

To paraphrase the inimitable Malcolm Tucker “some people are so dense light bends around them”
I don’t know the motives for Lancashire Channel posting this compilation of Accrington landmark buildings and yes I can ask “Where is the magnificent Haworth Art Gallery?” but I am appreciative of their efforts in accentuating the positive and reminding a wider audience of our towns industrial heritage and all.
Some people really do need to let the light shine in.

It doesn't do the town any favours to remind them of the heritage and show only the good points just to have them turn up and get accosted by beggars and thieves. Maybe before anybody opens the curtains to let the light shine in, the powers that be need to go round with the hoover and a duster ;)
