Puzzle 4
1 Attachment(s)
This one should get you all scratching your heads.
This is the Town Hall in Accrington. Nothing remarkable there you might think. But look again, there is something missing! Tell me what it is and you can win... 1000 MONEY! |
Re: Puzzle 4
First guess is a sign on the side wall?
|
Re: Puzzle 4
i was going to say the sign but changed to the gaurd around the tree???????
|
Re: Puzzle 4
One of those metal cages round the tree that hasn't got a metal cage round it.
|
Re: Puzzle 4
HBC Civil Servants aren't outside picketing for a pay increase that is MOST remarkable.
|
Re: Puzzle 4
Did there not use to be a door their on the side of the Town Hall. Where the first window was?
|
Re: Puzzle 4
Way to go Doug!
I thought that this one would run and run. Yes, there used to be a door in the side. Any ideas when it was blocked up? |
Re: Puzzle 4
There also used to be a cage round that other tree at one time too. :D
|
Re: Puzzle 4
Are you sure? Might it not have been something that HBC's contractors should have done but somehow forgot about.
|
Re: Puzzle 4
Bob you asked in your question "But look again, there is something missing!". You did not asked what used to be there so I think Doug should not get the cash but Willow, Steveo and myself as we gave you what we consider to be the correct answers of what is missing.
|
Re: Puzzle 4
I beg to differ Bagpuss the door was missing and the question was answered in that vain........It's what A-B had in mind when he posted the question. There use to be a street sign on the wall but that was not what A-B identified. You could also argue that the town Hall also had Clocks set to the corner windows, there missing too but the most obvious thing to be missing to those that would remember is the side door....I'm more than happy for A-B to reconsider his award in light of your protest. But you should be playing in the sprite of the game. I’ve been knocked back loads of times but I’m always happy to have a go even though I haven’t lived back home for donkeys years….

Re: Puzzle 4
I don't recall there ever being a sign on the wall, but there's something else missing too - a bit of paint off that "no entry" sign.
What street sign was it? One for Blackburn Road? |

Re: Puzzle 4
Now now, no arguments please. The decision of the adjudicator (ME) is final. It was the door I was looking for and Doug was the first to come up with the correct answer.
But dont worry, there will be tons more opportunities to win coming up. I have been out and about with the camera snapping furiously, and I have some real Stinkers lined up for you all to loose sleep over. And maybe even Bigger Prizes too! It is good that some of you have mentioned little things, like street signs though, because I am going to be doing some "doctored" puzzle Pics too. |
Re: Puzzle 4
Those will be fun. :)
|
Re: Puzzle 4
I wasn't talking about a street sign but the one that said "RIX WAS HERE", sorry Doug I was only messing about I had no idea that there used to be a side door.

Re: Puzzle 4
A sign saying "Broadway"? But Broadway is round the other side.
I do hope you can show us the pic with the door. Like Bagpuss I had no idea there used to be a door there but if I see it it may just jog my memory. |

Yeah, I was a little confused at first. The photo I was looking at was form the early 50s. I'll go and have a root a round for you............... |

Does this help?
|
Re: Puzzle 4
It helps me realise I originally thought I was looking at the opposite corner!! (ie photographed from somewhere in the vicinity of "Si") No wonder I was confused.
So, of course I was thinking of different trees too.:D |

Re: Puzzle 4
OOOooo! How did you get that into the body of the message Willow????????
|
Re: Puzzle 4
I clicked on the "add image" doofer, took the URL of the original and pasted it in. ("Doofer" is a little understood technical term for them little pictorial oohjies above the message box when you go advanced.)
|
Re: Puzzle 4
Come to think of it you might also say the railing (which was very popular for leaning on and watching the world go by) is also now missing, as is the belisha beacon.
|
Re: Puzzle 4
Yeah, but so is the muck on the walls, and the Policeman too for that matter.
Anyway, moving swiftly on, is the pic resident on your machine or on the internet? |
Re: Puzzle 4
This particular one is resident on th'AccyWeb.
|
Re: Puzzle 4
Nice picture willow and very close to the one I mean. But it's not the one, however I have found a copy of the one I'm on about in a book I bought about Accrington. I would think most of you with a interest will have a copy..........The book is Memories of Accrington. You will find the picture across pages 66 - 67....I think it's a cracking shot c1950s.

Glad I'm not the only one. I was beginning to wonder after Doug mentioned the "Broadway" sign.
|
Re: Puzzle 4
There are lots of other puzzle pics waiting for a solution chaps and 1000's of petz money waiting to be won!
|
Re: Puzzle 4
Got anything for us foreigners (ie never been that far north. Well, maybe twice!)? :)
|
Re: Puzzle 4
We're waffling A-b in the hope that you may not notice we haven't worked out the others yet.
BTW we need a name for this virtual money and a suitable symbol. Busman suggested "Ackers" (being somewhat connected to AccyWeb) but couldn't offer any ideas for a symbol. I'm having a think. |
