Those pictures are really moving. My father was there and was wounded during the D-day landings. What brave men and women they were. I hope that the day continues to be marked with reverence. I know that many of the vets may not get to visit the sites again...but that doesn't mean that their sacrifices and bravery should be forgotten.....ever.

Exactly M, I can only imagine the horrors and nightmares those brave folk (like your father) endured.
It isn't often I feel emotional, but I certainly did watching the D day specials. I live in hope that more people can show the same sort of selflessness required to bring our society back towards the one they fought and in a lot of cases died for.
We owe them a massive debt an the best way to pay that debt back is to see to it that NEVER again is such a sacrifice needed....

.....with that being said, I'm sure you can understand when I say I hope the creature who robbed this poor guy gets the bullet.
BBC News - Barnet war veteran's medals stolen on D-Day anniversary

It makes me feel physically sick that someone could do such a despicable act

Paris's uncle was killed on sword beach on D-Day, we went oer a couple of years back, n visited his grave, thanks to Retlaw finding the details fer us, was a very moving experience.

Loved the old veteran who did a bunk from his old folks home and took his self off to Normandy to pay tribute to his fallen comrades. What a guy! Apparently, he's planning to do it again next year. Still got the old spirit. Brilliant.

Yes, he is a star, but thanks should also go to the retired Kent teacher(Mrs Orrell) who saw him looking a bit lonely and took him under her wing...she was escorting three other vets and felt that one more would be no trouble.......I would like to say to her 'Thank you for looking out for this man and making his journey safe and memorable'.

This is off topic regarding D Day, but regarding comparison of photos over the years have a look at this video.

What a fantastic film, like watching ghosts from the past alongside people from today's London. Very clever.
