Re: Puzzle 12

Unless it's the Manchester & Liverpool Bank in Eagle St, now some kind of pensioner's club but I have no idea when that was built

Re: Puzzle 12

Are all the buildings there made of the same materials, because that looks just like the building in Puzzle 10?

WillowTheWhisp 08-12-2004 20:28

Re: Puzzle 12

There are a lot of town centre buildings made of the same stone.

Re: Puzzle 12

entwisi wins the location prize.

Willow wins the original use prize.

It is the former Manchester and Liverpool Bank building at the corner of Eagle Street and Cannon Street.

Any one care to try for the date?

Re: Puzzle 12

I'll try 1885 - I have a feeling there's a date on the building but I did say I wasn't going out tomorrow.............

Re: Puzzle 12

1878 or 1891 if we are guessing, Willow will get there before me so lets have another guess 1880 before I go.

Re: Puzzle 12

Tried having a quick look this morning(at 6AM) whilst on my way to work. Couldn't see a date stone at first look. There are some stones on the cannon street facade with letters in them( Can't remember what they were now I'm at my desk). Anyone care to exapnd what they are?

Re: Puzzle 12

There is considerable tangle of dates for this building, which will take me a few days to get sorted out - much delving into old maps etc. But I wil get to the bottom of it and I will let you know the result as soon as I can. In the meantime - keep guessing.

Re: Puzzle 12

I was going off the plaque on the building itself.

Acrylic-bob 17-12-2004 16:50

Re: Puzzle 12

Ahh yes, but which bit of the building, there's the rub.

WillowTheWhisp 17-12-2004 17:24

Re: Puzzle 12

The plaque which says it was built as the Manchester and Liverpool Bank.

Acrylic-bob 17-12-2004 17:45

Re: Puzzle 12

Ermm, it was all built as the Manchester and Liverpool Bank, but at different times, hence the confusion.
