Good grief it almost takes as long to compose one of these things as it does to solve one! :D

Re: Here's a 9x9 Sudoku for the experts.

Does that mean you haven't solved it yet? :D

I was thinking maybe K.S.H. or Gayle would be having a go too.

I might have a go later depending on what time I get up, too tired now after 12 hour nights!

Re: Here's a 9x9 Sudoku for the experts.

I stayed up last night doing one. I must be a total addict.

Looking forward in eager anticipation to someone solving this one.

You get some deserved sleep K.S.H. and get those brain cells charged up.

I have my own funny way of doing these which involves a little bit of erasing!

Re: Here's a 9x9 Sudoku for the experts.

I've done the bottom right box so far!

Took me about 5 minutes.

Now for the top left one!

Just completed it!

Well done Vorlon - PM me the answer and I'll mark it for you. ;)

Re: Here's a 9x9 Sudoku for the experts.

Sorry there are no lines separating the numbers, but I think this is correct. JohnW

1 6 9 3 5 4 8 2 7
4 2 8 9 7 6 3 5 1
3 5 7 2 1 8 6 4 9
5 3 1 6 2 9 7 8 4
9 8 4 5 3 7 2 1 6
6 7 2 8 4 1 5 9 3
7 9 3 4 8 2 1 6 5
8 4 5 1 6 3 9 7 2
2 1 6 7 9 5 4 3 8

Yes, I printed it off but I was at work at the time so didn't get much chance to look at it. I'll have a go tonight - I've not looked at the answers.

That looks good to me John :)

Re: Here's a 9x9 Sudoku for the experts.

Willow....doing one of these reminds me of doing the duty rotas.......you thought you had it all covered and then you found you hadn't.......I hated doing those damn things...so why do I torture myself with this for FUN...?

Re: Here's a 9x9 Sudoku for the experts.

Did it! Good one Willow it had me going for a while. Are you going to do some more for us?

WillowTheWhisp 12-07-2005 22:32

Re: Here's a 9x9 Sudoku for the experts.

It's quite a challenge creating them but fun too so I'll try to find time to do more. I'm out most of tomorrow though.

It makes a change from Dingbats even though I did promise to come up with a new batch of those too. :)

Re: Here's a 9x9 Sudoku for the experts.

My solution was very similar to JohnW's, but the middle line of the top middle box reads 679 (instead of 976) and the top line of the middle middle box reads 926 (instead of 629).

I checked every single line and box to make sure it was ok - is there a quicker way?!!

WillowTheWhisp 13-07-2005 13:26

Re: Here's a 9x9 Sudoku for the experts.

Funnily enough there are a couple of possible variations of this one and I did try really hard to make sure there weren't!

The 6s and 2s in the bottom left are interchaneable so you could have:

2 7 6
7 9 3

8 4 5
6 1 2 instead of

6 7 2
7 9 3

8 4 5
2 1 6

Re: Here's a 9x9 Sudoku for the experts.

Willow,

Are these puzzles supposed to be solved by deduction alone? I got so far with deduction, but then had to take a chance and make a guess on a couple of numbers. I think there were 6 & 4 in a 'nine' square that I found impossible to determine which, of two, they went in, even though they were the last two numbers in a square of nine. The first time it didn't work out so I swapped them around. It thus became a trial and error type solution for a while. Is that how it is supposed to be? I found the best way was to set up a spreadsheet in excel and any time I inputed trial and error numbers I did them in a different colour so I would know they were debatable.

WillowTheWhisp 13-07-2005 15:41

Re: Here's a 9x9 Sudoku for the experts.

:D I just use a pencil and a rubber, but yes they are supposed to be solveable by logical deduction.

It's hard to try to make sure of that though because when you're making one you have to look for loopholes and I obviously didn't see any.

Maybe there is a better way than my brain.

Re: Here's a 9x9 Sudoku for the experts.

I am so addicted to those puzzles.............

Re: Here's a 9x9 Sudoku for the experts.

I'll do another one when I can find a bit more time. (Just popping in and out between housework.)
