Mykonos was never quite the same.

Once all the riff-raff came, wanting to see where that cheeky parlour maid, Sarah, had found her little Scottish Adonis.

Pastures new were sought.

Not such a hash, you have got 6 points and I have somehow hung on to seven.... NS was impossibly fast today.

Most have played so can I now GRUMBLE!

The one I got wrong was in Imperial measurements, I have been used to Metric since 1971 when I had to learn it at junior school - they don't still use feet in the USA do they!?

Thought rugs were measured in knots...!:D

Time for UK to come up and wreck my showing...:p

That's the one I got wrong too...9x12 is not a rug in my book its a carpet.

And yes we do still use feet here as well as in USA.

My time was slow because with these stupidly easy questions I have to read each one twice to make sure they really want the answer that is so obvious.

Today's grumble and it's not even 10am! Went to site, clicked Standings, working OK, clicked Main, then went to play, got the following message:

It appears that our server is temporarily busy due to too many or long-running requests and your request has timed out. Please try hitting reload on this page a few minutes from now to resubmit your request. If this problem persists, please try back a little later. Our apologies if this results in one of your timed games performing poorly!

The last sentence made me see red as you can tell. Went back asap, time still 168 secs! would have been well under a minute without that.

That really is a bummer.

I can imagine -the one I got wrong I had seen before but couldn't remember what it should have been -probably made the same wrong answer as before! Which my memory was sharper at times -will remember the answer now but it'll probably never come up again:rolleyes:

I always play early and have (touchwood!) never got caught out by these problems -I have the advantage of time being an hour ahead WRT you English players:)

You have to be fairly agile.

That ain't Lanky,it's American...

In Arnold Silcock's Verse and Worse, it is attributed to ANON [New York], and goes thus:

The Budding Bronx

Der spring is sprung
Der grass is riz
I wonder where dem boidies is?

Der little boids is on der wing,
Ain't dat absoid?
Der little wings is on de boid!

Sam, Sam, Pick Up Tha Musket
Sam, Sam, Pick Up Tha Musket

It occurred on the evening before Waterloo,
As troops were lined up on parade.
And sergeant inspecting 'em, he were a terror,
Of whom every man were afraid.

All excepting one man, he were in't front rank,
A man by t'name of Sam Small.
And he and t'sergeant were both daggers drawn,
They thought nowt of each other at all.

As sergeant walked past he was swinging his arms,
And he happened to brush against Sam.
And knocking t'musket clean out of 'is hand,
It fell t'ground wi' a slam.

"Pick it up!" said sergeant, abrupt like, but cool.
But Sam wi' a shake of 'is 'ead.
Said "Seeing as tha knocked it out of my hand,
P'rhaps tha'll pick t' thing up instead.

Sam, Sam, pick up tha musket!
The sergeant exclaimed with a roar.
Sam said tha' knocked it down reasonin'
Tha'll pick it up, or it stays, where t'is on the floor.

The sound of high words very soon reached
The ears of an officer, Lieutenant Bird.
Who says to the sergeant "Now what's all this 'ere?",
And the sergeant told what had occurred.

"Sam, Sam, pick up thy musket !",
Lieutenant exclaimed with some heat.
Sam says he knocked it down, reasonin he picks it up,
Or it stays where't is at my feet.

It caused quite a stir when the Captain arrived,
To find out the cause of the trouble,
And every man there all, excepting old Sam,
Was full of excitement and bubble.

"Sam, Sam, pick up thy musket!",
Said Captain, for strictness renowned.
Sam says he knocked it down, reasonin he picks it up,
Or it stays where't is on the ground.

The same thing occurred when the Major and Colonel
Both tried to get Sam to see sense.
But when old Duke of Wellington came into view,
Well then the excitement was tense.

Up rode the Duke on a lovely white horse
To "Find out the cause of the bother."
He looked at the musket, and then at old Sam,
And he talked to old sam like a brother.

"Sam, Sam, pick up thy musket.", the Duke
Said as quiet as could be,
"Sam, Sam-Sam-Sam, pick up thy musket.",
Come on lad just to please me.

All right Duke says old Sam just for thee I'll oblige,
And to show thee I meant no offence.
So Sam picked it up. "Gradely lad." said the Duke.
"Righto boys let battle commence."

It's official! finally found an excuse for my erratic quiz form of late! Thought my brain as well as my bottom was being fried by the radiation but turns out it's more likely to be the other aspect of my treatment, which thankfully finished yesterday.

If this is right looks like I might be stuck with the effects for some time to come...

Post-chemotherapy cognitive impairment (PCCI) (also known as chemotherapy-induced cognitive dysfunction, chemo brain or chemo fog) describes the cognitive impairment that can result from chemotherapy treatment. Approximately 20–30% of people who undergo chemotherapy experience some level of post-chemotherapy cognitive impairment. The systems of the body most affected by chemotherapy drugs include visual and semantic memory, attention and motor coordination. Those affected often report difficulty multitasking, comprehending what they've just read, following the thread of a conversation, and retrieving words.
A year after treatment the brains of cancer survivors treated with chemotherapy had physically shrunk while those of people not treated with chemotherapy had not.

Post-chemotherapy cognitive impairment comes as a surprise to many. Although it appears to be temporary, it can be quite long-lived, with some cases lasting 10 years or more.

Are you sure -think I blew it yesterday already-was a bit hyper today and managed 10 really fast on top of the freezer in my bedroom here in Tenerife after a heavy days "shopping till dropping"-don't ask!!

Bit lucky -didn't know the last answer about Indians and clicked the first one..:D

Think Mancie probably has bagged first place and 2nd between Rindy and NS -we Newbies have a few years to go before hitting top three...

Good luck all...

Has anyone else noticed this... if you go to the standings page of the quiz, after 1 day, the daily scores for yesterday show susie above steve2qec and rindy above Mancie. Yet in the cumulative totals above hat chart which after only one day should be the same as yesterday's scores, Mancie is above rindy and steve is above susie. Anyone got any ideas why this should be?? The only difference iin each of the two pairs is time, number of correct answers and points awarded are the same. In each case the person with the longer time comes out on top!

Looks like the daily standings are based on score/time.. but then it reverts to alphabetical order on the monthly standings.

Yes that's the only thing I could think of - so the time becomes irrelevant!

Interesting... to me anyway. Yesterday Steve and I again had the same number of correct answers but I beat him by one second. We both ended up with 14 points over the two days. In the top ten cumulative score list he is above me but if you click on view all cumulative scores, I end up above him!

Having just played the quiz -saw in the Standings that Aromaanne is first this month -so well done mum. I'm way down out of the top 10:o

Not likely to do very well now as I'm away in the Lake Disrict and the only W-fi is available down in the clubhouse of the camp/caravan site. It is heaving with Geordies as it is raining (what a surprise in the Lakes!).

Had a good view of Morecambe Bay on the way here yesterday Sue...

Happy Easter to all the Trivia Quiz players - hope you all enjoy the holiday.:)

Geordies are the new 'host of daffodils' up there.

You're always surrounded by them.

Enjoy.

Try rolling one down a hill.

Or carefully hide a small one, and let all the other Geordies search for him.

:D

I'd better just add, 'a small Geordie adult'.

I'm not encouraging you to pass your time by involving yourself in child abduction.

Yep - real questions - thought you'd like it! Clicking is quite hard, you have to get it exactly in the box - and you can't change a wrong answer - but it passes the time when you're as bored as I am...

BTW - have you noticed who is the current quizz whizz of the hour?? :p

Re: Accywebbers Daily Trivia quiz Comp!!!

In case anyone's wondering - I HAVE played today but the blasted site has lost my answers and times even though it keeps telling me I played today and can't play again till tomorrow!

I think I'm allowed to grumble about this, haven't let off steam here for a while. Just when I've built up a decent lead the thing goes and stabs me in the back yet again.

I played and submitted my answers, but when I went back to the front page my name wasn't there. Went back to the answer page and the time was still going! Submitted again, still didn't appear in the listing, back to the answer page, time STILL going! Then the answer page and the question page disappeared altogether but it still says I have played when I try to play again!

The annoying thing is I got ten right! These things always seem to happen when I'm doing well.

I've just had the she-itey week to end all she-itey weeks and this just about puts the tin lid on it. And the bloomin swear word detector won't let me write what I really want to write there. And I thought Friday the thirteenth was yesterday!

Well it looks like I will have to untwist my knickers and eat a bit of humble pie as I have been back to the quiz site and my name has finally appeared but with a score of only 7 which is what it was before I changed three of them. Don't know why I had all that aggro with the ongoing times which I posted about above but it doesn't do my blood pressure any good!

I hope my rant will be forgiven - I really have had an awful week. :o:(

Just seem to get frowned on when I grumble.

Actually Friday was one of the better days in my week from hell - and it was mainly a good week as far as the quiz is concerned. It was just a pretty wretched week in other ways.

Weird day today at the quiz - thought I'd done badly yet again but it seems I've just been beaten by one second so far. Can people really be considered Celebrities if no-one seems to have heard of them?

Just been on the quiz site to find that although Mancie scored 10 his time was over 400 seconds. There is clearly a problem here as Dave and I have both found, though not to quite such a devastating effect, this week.

It looks as though I may be top tonight in the cumulative scores though I can't say it gives me any pleasure if it's achieved this way at the expense of others. Mind you, I have also been in Mancie's position with a time of over an hour!

BTW where are you Rindy?

As a form of secondary protest, in sympathy for Mancie, we could all put down our mouse, stage a walk-out and boycott the Trivia Quiz:D

Or would we risk prosecution - I have a sneaky feeling sympathy strikes were out-lawed by a certain Lady PM in the 1980's...

Re: Accywebbers Daily Trivia quiz Comp!!!

Just wondered if anyone is as fed up with the current set of categories as I am. They are very limited in scope and rigid in pattern. I seem to remember that previously we had a wider range of subjects and levels of difficulty in what seemed like a more random pattern. Just looking at the quizzes on offer in the open section of the funtrivia site there are subjects such as literature, world, humanities, religion, hobbies (mainly food and drink), science, and several more, at varying levels of difficuty.

Would it be a good idea to find out if we can broaden the scope of our quiz a bit? Interested to know what anyone thinks. We seem to have dropped a few players recently so a fresh look might be a good thing.

You'd have to get in touch with Stanleymad as the quizmaster to see about any changes.

As the saying goes "a change is as good as a rest":)

We were up to 15 regulars at one point -shame to have lost some people along the way...hopefully it's just temporary.

Get fed up easily i suppose!

Usually reflects something I've been reading, listening to or just my mood which changes a lot...

Currently Lucy Honeychurch and George Emerson (Room with a View) -representing romance and love -am re-reading some of my own writing at the moment and DHLawrence also figures in it, hence the quote...

Makes sense to me anyway, Sue!:D

I wouldn't mind getting rid of Fun Trivia and General Knowledge - Very Easy. Those two usually turn into speed contests. To be honest I don't mind the others....I've even grown to love Celebrities!!!!
