Re: Dingbats Round Three
This one isn't mine and I now know the answer to it and all I can say is that it isn't a phrase I've ever heard of.
|
Re: Dingbats Round Three

Re: Dingbats Round Three
I thought Terry was working on it. ;)
I came across this phrase on a TV documentary not long ago and it surprised me. I can't remember the context now though. |

Re: Dingbats Round Three
OK I'm going to tell you this, I have now found where the reference comes from.
The answer is "One if by land and two if by sea". Apparently it's a very famous line from Longfellow's poem about Paul Revere and the American revolution. They arranged to give lantern signals when the British were spotted, one if they came by land and two if they came by sea. It's also now the name of a bar/restaurant in New York, named after the line in the Longfellow poem. |
Re: Dingbats Round Three
Hi Willow. I was indeed working on this last one. (on and off) Thankfully you have provided the answer because there was no hope me solving it. I had a few possibles which were total rubbish. Never mind. Hopefully you will post another ten in the near future for us all to have a go at:)
