Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Park

Friends of Rhyddings Park is organising a big music event in the park on Sunday, June 15th between 3pm and 7pm.

There will be classical, jazz and brass bands playing, in other words, a really traditional park concert.

It's free to attend.

We have a full music programme including Darwen Brass Band and East Lancashire Concert Band, plus circus acts on the field.

You're invited to come along and bring a picnic (hopefully we'll get good weather) and enjoy the afternoon - it's Father's Day as well, so we're hoping lots of families will come.

There's just one thing I need to find now and that's a good Compere! If anyone knows of anybody who is capable of introducing the acts, chatting to the crowd and keeping the event moving could you please let me know. I'd love to hire a local person to do it.

Have mentioned 'a do' like this to Mez and us gang, I love these events ...yes, providing weather OK ...

No doubt, we would be bringing a decent sized picnic with tablecloths, candelabra, etc. :D

Re: Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Park

well i just thought id resurect this thread because a certain accyweb member & a member of our tiny group of friends (girls only) (no names now) is celebrating her birthday on the 14th of june, its a special one umm ;) so we thought we would do something different for her soooooo we are having a "party in the park" celebration with her as the main guest at our table :D so if there are any accywebbers attending on sunday 15th of june please feel free to call at our rather large table to wish our lady of the day a happy birthday.:hehetable

of course it all depends on the weather too

Be just our luck for Busman to be working - as usual he doesn't know yet!

Re: Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Park

The weather forecasts are improving. When I last looked it said 60% precipitation - now it's showing a nice sunny picture and only 10% precipitation!

What do they know anyway?

WillowTheWhisp 12-06-2008 09:24

Re: Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Park

Well it's stopped precipitating today now and the forecast had been a bad one.

Will there be a beer tent, serving some proper real ale? If so, I might just turn up.

Gayle 12-06-2008 11:33

Re: Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Park

No, but the Stop and Rest is just next door!

If it precipitates on the day you'll probably find most people in there.

I have had a brief visit - the event seemed well attended - saw a few webbers and had a double JD in the Stop and Rest - (the stop and the rest were needed since I walked there and back) - glad it kept fine for Kate's birthday buffet.

No. Normally you hear gangnames like slasher and knuckles, but these were different. Not sure if I heard them right but sounded something like Mez and Katex. Perhaps they are modern day gangstas

Re: Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Park

What a simply brilliant day.

The rain stayed away, and the sun made many welcoming appearances.

It was so lovely to see the park so full of people of all ages, and all enjoying themselves, many of them Accy Webbers.

A massive thanks must go the the Friends of Rhyddings Park, who must have worked hard ensuring today was a great success, espcially Gayle.

I know a lot of the dickie birds who live in the park, and one of them did twitter in my ear that a certain Peter Britcliffe had made sure the park was looking it's best today, and it was. So credit where credit's due, I'm sure it was appreciated.

The four bands were brilliant, and there was something to suit most musical tastes.

I throughly enjoyed myself, and catching up with so many people for a natter was fun, whilst enjoying the sunshine and music.

Thank you to all who made it happen.:)

Neil, your speech at the end moved me to tears.:D

One unfortunate thing is that the Accy Obs and Lancs Tel didn't send photographers or reporters so it won't get any coverage. Oh, well I suppose we don't do it for the glory of being in the papers - we do it for everyone who turned up. The police reckon there were about 1,000 people there at the peak. Thanks.

I told you on Sunday, to take your funny fags and tins of Special Brew to the Mela that should be in Oakhill Park but can't be because the bandstand was being rebuilt at the same time then wasn't so has moved to the Sports Centre anyway.

I think that is quite poor by both the Obs and the LT they do monitor this site and I'm sure Gayle will have told them anyway. The LT have an ossy section on their Web Sit and are always asking for stories, and of coure the Obs have an Ossy page too, surely an event like this was worth a few pics and some column inches:(
