There’s a live webcam located at the towngate Great Harwood.
It has been put there by Studio 25 and the Great Harwood appreciation Society.

Once the page has loaded you may not get an image straight away, you may have to wait a couple of minute before you are given an option to install some camera software, when you do, install it, then bob’s your uncle.

That's great Len, love webcams throughout the world ... did ask about one in Accy at one time, but everyone just laughed ..:p

Haven't looked at it yet, but will when I have more time, know I will make a mess of the downloading or whatever. :rolleyes:

Hope our other towns follow this example. Great for our ex-pats.

There’s a control panel to the left of the video, so you can control were the camera points.
Best to view the image at a “Resolution” 640*480 and set the “Refresh Rate” to MJPEG. The refresh rate periodically changes, so you’ll have to keep an eye on it.

can't get the live webcam, just get error (4/12152) but yet I can get a still image on the snapshot camera... active x installed too :(

:(Gedroff!!! Get your own webcam!! Accrington stole our Council in 1974. It's probably Accrington folk nicking our grids. Geroffff!!!!;)


GHAS and Studio25 had a whip round and spent a few bob on a good cam, following a test run with your bog standard blurred eye. Been very successful, very busy etc. Gareth and Debbies photos are v.good if you need a competent snapper for your function. See the website. Visit Great Harwood! But behave yourself - this is not Accrington.

I struggled at first but managed it by altering the drop down menu named 'refresh rate' to read '3s'

Need to have a look at it later today (Sunday) - it's been "sporadic" this weekend. I think I've tweaked something that should have stayed untwunk.

You don't need to install anything if you use a Java capable browser such as FireFox. Also, if more than four or five people hit it at 640x480 video (MJPEG or MPEG-4) simultaneously, it suffers a bit of a slowdown.


All you need for a similar thing in Accy is a shop with unused bandwidth on their broadband connection, located somewhere of interest to the community, whether present or expat. Don't put it near a pub or club because it's "general interest" not "just another CCTV".

If it does generate enough interest, we're more than happy to pass on our findings from setting ours up.

Very nice but we didn't have a web cam because all the shops wouldn't agree. I don't see how this is legal to be honest. It's a camera on business premises and therefore should comply with data protection regulations. Please prove me wrong if I am?

only just found out about this yest afternoon in baggys (didnt see this thread) its a good idea and like you say len it should be fun on pram race day, so long as the morons dont keep mooning it !!!!!...if you were watching yest aft i walked past about 3.30 ish i gave you a wave lol...:D

oh no lol my nights in harwood are rumbled lol

mind you its not as bad as having a partner who works on police comunications and cctv , the ex used to spot me regularly on cctv and send me a text expressing her displeasure at the state i was in lol

one time i mooned at the camera and wasnt sure if i would be getting done for mooning my ex or mooning a police officer lol

Was a superb day, thanks to the weather and the participants. Got me loads of photos and I’ll add them to the gallery when I’ve got the time. But for now, it’s time for bed. :D

Just a quick admin note: The webcam's IP address changes whenever there's a fart in the power supply, such as during the two recent thunderstorms. I've also had to change the access port number yesterday to allow someone in Canada to gain access, as his ISP was blocking the old port number to protect from an obscure virus. All this means that if you bookmark the IP/port combo that shows while you're actually watching the camera, it will eventually stop working. Better to bookmark the link at the top of this thread and follow the resulting link, as any glitches are normally corrected within 24 hours.
