Re: Accrington Grammar School Old Boys
I know Bob does sterling work on behalf of the Accrington Grammar School Old Boys, but it just occured to me, is anyone doing something silmilar for old girls of Accrington High School?
Or indeed any other schools in the borough? Just curious. My own old school has an Old Boys association, as well as a full time archivist, doing similar work to Bob, research, and tracking past pupils. I like their magazine, but don't go to many reunion dinners etc. |
Re: Accrington Grammar School Old Boys
There is an AHS site on Friends Reunited. I thought of joining it, I knew some of the girls there quite well!

Re: Accrington Grammar School Old Boys
So far as the Girls High School is concerned, there is no formal arrangement,. The girls of 1953 meet every 5 years.

What happened to all the school records for the Grammar and High Schools, when they merged? It seems a pity there isn't an equivalent of you, recording the history of the High School, and it's former pupils. |
Re: Accrington Grammar School Old Boys
I know you need to be a member to access the AGS OB's website, but perhaps if you gave the link to the site in this thread, some more former pupils might be in contact.

Re: Accrington Grammar School Old Boys
I am one of those 'girls of '53', who meet every 5 years.
We are due another meet next year which will be our 5th, but it may well be a small meet up one afternoon in the organiser's front room. Deaths and severe ill health have caused numbers to dwindle at every meet. |
Re: Accrington Grammar School Old Boys
The Grammar & High Schools ceased to exist in 1975. They didn't merge as a new school, Moorhead, was created and the 11-plus was abandoned. I don;t know where recordsd are kept, but the AGS ones are kept in the Lancashire Archives at Preston.
The AGSOBs' website (AGSOB Social Evening April 2011) is free to access, though some sections of it cannot be reached unless you are a registered user. This is proving difficult at present due to a technical glitch and for the time being, we prefer that Old Boys come to the site through me or the webmaster. Thank you. The last time I looked I couldn't access the forum. The photographs are interesting. Perhaps someone on here might be able to help date the unknown one in the gallery. |
Re: Accrington Grammar School Old Boys
I don't know how the error over the wrong website details came about. Mick tells me that if you use it as a link, it comes up with the correct website. I will try again:-
AGSOB Social Evening April 2011 It seems OK, but will it when I press 'send'? |
