Hover craft Racing-course in Ossy

On Northwest Tonight there was an article just on about a Hovercraft course having opened up in Ossy. It looks intersting but I only caught the last few seconds of it.

It seems that they are having races on the 18th and 19th of June and spectators are welcome.

Anybody out there got anymore details?

I think it would be a fun day out for every-one except, Vorlon24 (Unless he gets on his motorbike and sets off early)!

Well I went with Shortstuff to the first days meeting, what a grand day out!
We got there about midday, price per person £2.00 for the full day with full access to view the machines during their breaks, ask anyone there a question and they are keen to answer.
We didn't stay for the full day but only because we weren't expecting it to last as long as it did, the spectators I think were given priority places we could see the full course, and the hairpin bend directly in front of us allowed us to see the various struggles as drivers? (maybe riders I don't know which is the correct term) tried to beat each other for positions.
One of their special items was a hovercraft built and used for the last James Bond Film, you could take your children (they do seem to be dedicated towards family enjoyment) and have them seated in the machine for as long as you wanted, no charge, no time limit.
They also gave the kid's the chance to be taken out on their machines (full safety gear etc.) just for the adventure, the ones we saw loved it.

They have a beer tent (again carefully supervised) I think they must have heard I was coming!

Tomorrow (Sunday) they have another full day of racing, this time they are starting at 11.30 and continue-ing through until the finish of the day.

I am not able to give you any statistics about horse power, what craft is in what category but I do think this is a marvelous days entertainment and makes a nice change from the sort of rip off expense parents etc. have grown used to.

They have, I believe plans to make this a regular venue for their sport, I do wish them all the success, because we in this area need this and many other interesting sports to come here, we have got the room for them we just need the spirit to get on and do it!

A quick by the way, if you are going take your picnic chairs then you can watch with a little bit more comfort.

More details can be gained from their site:-

Oh what a shame, the beer was excellent yesterday, Cold, clear & with the extra satisfaction of enjoying it outside! Shortstuff reckoned the Lager was v. good as well (Only £1.80 & £2.00 per pint) a bargain at that sort of venue!:p

Great Pic's though, by the end of the day mine were all out of focus or suffering from handshake, ( I still don't know why).
:D

Great photos. What a pity that they picked the Accy Carnival weekend. Yesterday we were at the carnival and today we were at church and then the weather turned nasty. Looks like it was a very interesting day out.
