RIP Smokin' Joe Frazier ... one of the best from the golden age of boxing, fighting greats such as Quarry, Bonavena, Machin, Chuvalo, Foreman, and, of course, Ali ... No boxing fan can ever forget the "Fight of the Century" (sometimes known as "The Fight") in '71, and the "Thrilla in Manila" in '75.

Not a boxing fan myself -but it's always sad to see a household name go, makes you realise how quickly time passes...

The Heavyweight Division during that period was the best its ever been in my opinion, n Smoking Joe was at the top of it fer awhile, a great character n a very gutsy fighter, my own opinion has always been outa the 3 ali fights,Frazier won 2 of em, though statistics say otherwise. sad to see the passing of one of the "Real Greats" R.I.P.

George Chuvalo said that Frazier was the toughest man he ever fought ... Joe beat him by TKO in the fourth round, I think ... (Ali, by the way, said that Chuvalo was the toughest man he ever fought) ... but, you are right, those were the great days of the sport. That '71 fight was probably the greatest of all time. Forget about the Rumble in the Jungle and the Thrilla in Manila ... THE FIGHT was heavyweight boxing at its best.:alright:

Totally agree Eric it had it all guts, heart, skill , speed and spirit he must have had a head as hard as an house brick and a heart as big as a lions ,Ali as well.As cashy said the best period in heavyweight boxing without a doubt along with the early Tyson.:alright:

Have never really been a fight fan, but the 3 fights between Smoking Joe and Ali were great spectacles, especially the build up RIP big man
