Crochet
I'm trying to teach myself to crochet and am struggling for the best yarn. I find normal knitting wool doesn't work too well (perhaps because I'm a novice). Does anyone have any recommendations as to the best type of yarn that would suit?

Re: Crochet

My old auntie taught me to crochet using this.....it was 6d a ball back then......don't know what it would be today. |

There is a haberdashery stall in the market hall...they might have it...or you could try on good old Flea bay

JAMES C BRETT - 100G CRAFT COTTON - DISHCLOTH/CROCHET COTTON - Choice of Colour | eBay
OK...not quite as cheap as 6d...but best i can do. |
Re: Crochet
Information from someone who is very competent at crochet - Double Knitting Wool is ideal. Obtainable from Market Hall, Wilkinson's, Home Bargains.
There is a Craft Club at Howarth Art Gallery on Wednesdays, 1200 - 1500, where you would be able to get advice and perhaps a little instruction. |

Re: Crochet
Hi,When I used to crochet baby things I used 4ply;crepe knitting wool it didn't separate like normal wool,if I can help in any way let me know,I can't crochet at the moment I've got a frozen shoulder.

Re: Crochet
OOh Irene...you have my sympathy...that is painful and it takes such a long time to get better.
I hope you look after yourself(and keep that shoulder moving even if it is only a little bit)and that it eases soon. |
Re: Crochet
Thanks Margaret, cortisone injection didn't work, just waiting to see the consultant with a view to keyhole surgery, what with getting flooded on Boxing Day & my shoulder it's enough to make me hit the bottle, but I'll paint a picture instead.

Re: Crochet
At least there is light at the end of the tunnel Irene.
I had a frozen shoulder a few years ago and it wasn't pleasant.....I had physio exercises and hot and cold treatment...which worked for me(I was a wimp and didn't want surgery). |
Re: Crochet
Hi Jelly baby,I think that I have a pack of crochet cotton,if you're interested I'll dig it out but I live in Edgworth,I don't want anything for it.
