Crochet

I'm trying to teach myself to crochet and am struggling for the best yarn. I find normal knitting wool doesn't work too well (perhaps because I'm a novice). Does anyone have any recommendations as to the best type of yarn that would suit?
Thanks

There is a haberdashery stall in the market hall...they might have it...or you could try on good old Flea bay

Information from someone who is very competent at crochet - Double Knitting Wool is ideal. Obtainable from Market Hall, Wilkinson's, Home Bargains.
There is a Craft Club at Howarth Art Gallery on Wednesdays, 1200 - 1500, where you would be able to get advice and perhaps a little instruction.

I've tried double knitting wool but can't get the hang of it, probably because I'm new to crocheting. Thanks for the info about the craft club at The Haworth, I might wander up there next week.

double knitting wool IS most definitely ideal for crochet work once you have got the hang of the technique......but I learned to crochet with cotton...dish cloth cotton......I also learned to do hairpin work with the same beige stuff......as fot tatting...well, I could not get the hang of that at all.:D

Hi,When I used to crochet baby things I used 4ply;crepe knitting wool it didn't separate like normal wool,if I can help in any way let me know,I can't crochet at the moment I've got a frozen shoulder.

OOh Irene...you have my sympathy...that is painful and it takes such a long time to get better.
I hope you look after yourself(and keep that shoulder moving even if it is only a little bit)and that it eases soon.

Thanks Margaret, cortisone injection didn't work, just waiting to see the consultant with a view to keyhole surgery, what with getting flooded on Boxing Day & my shoulder it's enough to make me hit the bottle, but I'll paint a picture instead.

At least there is light at the end of the tunnel Irene.
I had a frozen shoulder a few years ago and it wasn't pleasant.....I had physio exercises and hot and cold treatment...which worked for me(I was a wimp and didn't want surgery).
