New Sky HD Menu System
 

Turned my Sky on at lunch time and they'd downloaded the new Sky HD menu system they've been advertising for weeks, and I have to say its first class, much easier, plan and the playback facility is great, when you record a series, instead of showing each program it just stacks them under the program heading, when you click on the title they all appear, plus when you highlight a particular episode it automatically gives you the synopsis. Its a great improvement:mosher:

SKY+ is probably the best use of technology in the home.

I have to agree entwisi, I can't remember the last time I used my video to record a program, the only time I use it now is to transfer from hard drive to tape

What a quaint idea. All that new technology and no way to transfer it digitally to DVD or something :rolleyes:

What a poor idea this Sky+ is.

Err. So what are all these dvds i have at home taken from sky. Ok you have to in analog in between.

I thought the idea of digital TV was so you don't loose quality like you do with analog.

If Sky did not force you to buy equipment from them we would have digital sat receivers with built in DVD recorders like they do in Europe.

I agree it would be good to have an open market with options (bigger hds, other facilities lie internet radio, inet access, media centre functionality) but it won't happen as the gov clearl.y don't want to upset murdock etc. I wonder how much/where he donates to politics???????

You can get a Sky HD box free if you buy a TV from Tesco apparently (and they've had loads of TV deals lately).

I wish I had a house that I planned to stay in.. freeview with HD will do for now! I agree though really needs to be more open. The FreeSat boxes are going to be great, but of course you can't get the Sky subscription channels!

Me.

It would be a daft thing to do and need more hardware to convert it that way.

My box records the transport stream straight to disk. You can then burn straight to DVD if you had a DVD writer in it of course ( or a USB one will do )

I've just got my new updated EPG Jaysay. I can get ITVHD now too, which of course Sky didn't carry previously. I never watch ITV, but it'll come in handy for the odd occasions when the footy is on. Normal definition ITV is really dire.

nice to hear they have finally got ITV HD but why they need to charge that extra tenner for programmes you are already paying for and are in most cases free on other channels(freesat) is not sitting well with a lot of people including me.

Thanks for the heads up TM I hadn't noticed that myself, always thought it was daft of ITV not to allow their HD on Sky, twas like then at the beginning when you couldn't get ordinary ITV on satellite for quite a while

Freesat HD only has BBCHD (for around 6 hours per day), Channel 4HD (which is often upscaled and not HD) and the occasion couple of hours of ITVHD. The SkyHD package has at least 12 extra HD channels on top of those, plus you can always pay extra for the premium HD channels too (Sport and Movies). I actually get a few channels I don't already pay for, such as EurosportHD, MTVHD and DisneyHD.

I know people don't like having to pay for things, but I think Sky is good value for money and although I'd obviously like the £9.75 fee dropping, I wouldn't like it if it meant that I'd lose the additional channels.

I don't think it was a case of ITV not allowing Sky to show its HD channel, but more to do with the way that ITVHD works via the 'red button' and not a proper channel in its own right. Sky not having ITVHD was a bit rich really, as it was Sky that funded ITV's move into HD in the first place.
