There wasn't TV at our house until I was in my teens.
I don't think that Radio Luxemburg corrupted me

He was in short trousers then - and now he is a big boy, he still is no turn on.

Mancie, I am 62 years old....there were no TV's or home computers when I was growing up......like many others on here I lived a life, played out.
My parents took care to try make sure that I was safe...but safety was different then, they educated us about dangers......you fell in a lodge, and you swam or drowned.....yes we went on the railway lines, but I am still here to talk about it.
Far different times.

I was talking about the fact that children can access TV through a laptop...which is portable, so while the child may not have a TV or computer in their bedroom......they may take their laptop into the privacy of their room to view what ever they like...no watershed on computers, so they can access stuff that their parents may feel is inappropriate....somehow you seem to have missed my point. Never mind.

You should be more worried about what else can be accessed with a laptop than what they might be watching on TV

Wouldn't even dream of buying a laptop for a child of mine until they were at least 18 .. when maybe they have a need for a portable one. Better to buy a P.C., in full view of the whole family.

I don't see anything wrong with the programmes this girl was watching .. she was chosen for her blinkered viewing anyway. Nothing wrong in watching fashion make overs (good to try to make yourself look good), and teenage situations .... not many take them seriously anyway.

Most children under 12 would only be interested in light entertainment in any case. I was guilty of putting the T.V. on just to keep a 2 year old son quiet for 10 minutes to restore my brain back to normality whilst Thomas the Tank Engine was on. Later on, as long as homework was done ... then didn't monitor length of time T.V. was being watched.

These days, they are more likely to be playing computer games for long hours ('cept for breaks playing footy on the street).. as did my son .. but always loads of his mates there too. Some games were violent, but none has had any adverse affects on any of them from what I can see; all decent non-violent citizens with decent jobs, except if you consider one who is now a Sergeant in the army.

Neil, I don't worry about what my 'child' is watching....she is a grown woman and quite capable of discerning what is rubbish and what isn't.
Those days of me worrying what my child is up to have long departed.

And isn't there a parental control thing on internet access?...or is that something I have dreamed up?

In the playground on friday morning, one of Maddie's 9 year old friends asked her if she'd watched the launch of Big Brother. Maddie hadn't - for a start it's on too late, but other than that the content is definitely not something I would like my 9 year old to see. Clearly other parents allow their children to watch it.

I'm shocked by some of the things that 8 year olds tell me they watch......Little Britain was the one that most shocked me.

As if you'd let an 8 year old watch Little Britain!

i suppose a good start for kids programs would be for them to have english speaking charecters rather than stupid teletubby retards bouncing about teh place and such like

To be quite honest Lilly I think if my Mother was still alive she'd stop me from watching Little Briain even now:rolleyes:, but she'd wouldn't really have to bother, only ever watched one episode for ten minutes and haven't watch a second of it since
