Let The Right One In (2008)

I saw this film last night on blu-ray and loved it. I'm not one for horror films normally (they're formulaic and tedious), but this one is something very special.

The IMDB page is here: Låt den rätte komma in (2008)

The film is Swedish, but apparently Hollywood are remaking it, so you can expect a completely buggered up American attempt.

I know many people won't be interested, but I thought I'd post this for those who might be.

There is an enormous world of film outside of Hollywood and if people would open their experiences to world cinema, then there are some rich treasures to be explored. It's a shame when people allow subtitles to cloud their experiences, but it's always been the case I suppose.

Some of the best films I've ever seen have been foreign and subtitled. Der Untergang springs to mind, that's easily in my top ten. I loved Die Fälscher too. Film4 often show great foreign films late at night.

Watched it with the English subtitles a few months ago. To be honest i didnt find it all that good , pretty boring.
But hey, thats just my opinion and everybody differs.

A good foreign horror film with English subtitles is called Orphanage.

Whilst I agree that it's good that we all have differing opinions, I do believe that our experiences of cinema reflect on what we consider to be good and bad. If the majority of our film experiences are Hollywood based, then I can understand why the Spanish film, The Orphanage, is considered to be better as it's more conventional in terms of narrative and construction.

Let The Right One In is less generic and in my opinion, a much cleverer film. One of the key themes of course is loneliness (for both of the main characters), which is portrayed so well and reminded me so much of Lasse Hallström's, My Life As A Dog. There are also many unanswered questions in the film, like 'who is using who?' and 'is there really any love involved in the relationship?'.

The 'horror' in the film is not apparent from the action, but in the relationship between Oskar and Eli. Well, it is for me anyway.... lol

I guess thats because some people cant read, maybe dyslexic, cant multi-task :D:D or the subs go off before you can read them. lol.
