Watched them all. The first one was superb when he built an airfix spitfire on a scale of 1:1 with the help of a group of schoolchildren and students. Great program which really demonstrates how modern technology is eroding basic 'hands on' skills. Well done, James May. Makes a welcome a change from TV tat shows like the X-Factor and Big Brother.

is this the one where he got a load of kids to build mechano to the instructions and not one kid got the mechano crane correct because as he revealed and was new information to me mechano always put faults in teh instructions so as to encourage kids to problem solve so making it to teh instructions never worked

The first program in the series involved schoolchildren building plastic air-fix kits of a Supermarine Spitfire. James then investigated the possibility of building a full sized model using the same technique which was eventually achieved by ingenuity and a few design tweaks. The finished model now forms part of the display in the museum at RAF Cosford in Shropshire.

Last night's 'Scalextric' exercise was a bit of a damp squib as opposed to the structural ingenuity involved with previous programs. Still entertaining, but lacking the interest aroused by the 'Airfix' and 'Meccano' episodes. Am looking forward to the Christmas screening which I understand will be based around 'railway modelling', one of my latter interests. (I admit to maintaining a 0-0 gauge layout in my loft on the pretext that my grandsons' are still interested).
