His real name is Bernard Schwartz he changed it to Curtis to make him sound more American. His parents were Hungarian and he only spoke that language till he was 5 or so - apparently.

Kirk Douglas was originally called Issur Danielovitch - his parents were Jewish...

Don't think changing his name stopped him or his kids from being Jewish :D

Although I believe his children 'married out' of the religion.

Apparently Michael's other half isn't Jewish, and hails from Wales.

Nerys Hughes, Ruth Madoc, Angharad Rees, Windsor Davies?

No, can't remember their name.

:D

Lauren Bacall was born Betty Joan Perske her parents were also Jewish Immigrants according to Wikipedia.

I thought that being Jewish meant you followed the religion? I don't know if Kirk Douglas was a practicing Jew, but you never know.

I think you'll find most American actors have close migrant roots.

Off the top of my head I can't think of many Native American Hollywood stars.

The only one that comes to mind is Elvis Presley, apprently he had a 1/4 Native American blood in him. Native Americans don't make it probably because of role discrimination.

Hollywood, in it's hay day, didn't have much idea about authenticity, as far as race was concerned.

In most classic westerns, they used tons of make-up, to turn those pale faces into naughty 'Red Indians'.

Funny you should say :D Jack Palance ain't his real name, his parents are Ukrainian and birth name - Volodymyr Palahniuk - he probably looks a bit "indian" as he may have some Siberian blood in him
