Doctor Who
The latest series (the 32nd season) is being trailed quite a bit at the moment and it looks promising but despite a confirmed air date of 23rd April on BBC America there is nothing from this side of the pond.
As ever I'm as excited as a kid on Christmas Eve, anyone else feel the same? |
Re: Doctor Who
yep, saw a trailer for it the other day...i was gutted when all it said was 'coming soon'

Re: Doctor Who
It's the expected date but as yet it still hasn't been officially confirmed by the BBC.

Straight afterwards on CBBC there's a 15 minute tribute to Elisabeth Sladen, otherwise known as companion Sarah Jane Smith who died earlier this week. |
Re: Doctor Who
I love the feel of this new series but I'm glad I'm not a casual viewer. The pace of the dialogue is way too fast because if you miss something then it's likely that you've probably missed something important.
However, the tone is much darker than before and we've lost most of the RTD era slush which was bogging it down in the end. Good cliffhanger last night, too. |
Re: Doctor Who
Not quite the Accyweb interest in the series as there was last year. I must say I'm thoroughly enjoying the new episodes though, just good storytelling, direction and production.
I'm happy to see that they've ditched the companion-in-love-with-the-Doctor routine and I don't live in fear of a sky full of Daleks or Rose Tyler at the end of each series now. General thumbs up from me although next week's episode is the last before a break of a few months. Not sure about that. |
Re: Doctor Who
yup they mentioned that they are doing more breaks in the show or something to improve merchandise sales.Apparently if they spin the show out longer it keeps the appeal for the action figures etc higher
roughly what they said in an interview it was a few months ago . no need for breaks in a series just show the damn shows then get the next show along instead of using a good show as a breaker between the other crap shows they put on  getting used to the new doctor and the slutty chicks not bad but that rodney trotter lookalike needs to be killed off sharpish |
Re: Doctor Who
Final episode of the series tonight and I'm looking forward to a few loose ends being tied up. However, knowing Steven Moffatt this will not be the case.
Matt Smith shines as the Doctor although Amy and Rory do seem to have run out of steam as companions and since they were nicely written out two weeks ago and tonight's episode will involve them earlier in their timeline I hope they will leave room for new blood on board the TARDIS. Still got quite a thing for Alex Kingston though.... |
Re: Doctor Who
I haven't seen any of the "new" Doctor Who series apart from the Christopher Ecclestone one which brought The Doctor back out of retirement. That was great because he's such a brilliant actor.
As a child I loved John Pertwee and then Tom Baker who were both definitive Doctors -used to hide behind the settee when the Daleks came on back then.... |
Re: Doctor Who
New series is due to start anytime soon, must say I'm looking forward to the first episode which will include every single type of Dalek onscreen since 1963.
Trailer on Saturday night, so I'm told. |

Re: Doctor Who
My 15 year old daughter & I always watch it, really liked the first 2 episodes of the latest series but last nights wasn't as good. The first one with the new companion in was interesting I wonder how they will introduce her at christmas knowing she ends up Dalek, Steven Moffet has a warped mind. Shame only 2 more to go in the series.
|
Re: Doctor Who
Second half of the new series starts on 30th March for an eight episode run.
All eleven Doctors are reported to be involved in the anniversary special, with a Christmas special featuring 9, 10 and 11 called The Three Kings which sounds interesting. Personally, I'm just looking forward to seeing more screen time for Paul McGann. |
Re: Doctor Who
I'm losing the will to live watching the current series, reminiscent of the dark days of Sylvester (that guy from Vision On) McCoy and Bonnie (scweam and scweam til i'm thstick) Langford which pretty much killed off Dr Who once before.
Matt Smith just cannot do intelligent and eccentric, wearing a bow tie as a prop is no substitute for acting. The scripts are as puerile as stories from 60's comics such as the Hotspur or Valiant. Last weeks special effects of riding a hover bike across the expanse of space, were pathetic, 14 year old you tube amateurs produce far better. The BBC cannot even produce a decent background starfield. Sci-Fi requires that you suspend belief, and good sci-fi is immersive and kinda makes you forget reality and the laws of physics. Riding a motor bike without wheels between planets without the need for air or pressure suits (coupled with crap special effects) requires too much suspension, as does believing that you can sing a lullaby across a vaccum and soothe a demon on a distant planet to sleep. I love sci-fi..I watch all kinds of rubbish on Sky but this current Dr Who's acting/writing/effects/direction is absolute garbage! |
Re: Doctor Who
I haven't watched it since the days when the chap with the long scarf was in it.
I prefer my sci-fi to be more thought provoking. |

Unfortunately, I have to have the audio on for the test. The screenplay seemed as bad as the acting. |
Re: Doctor Who
after been brought back from the dead and totally revamping the show this new writer for teh show is undoing all the good work.
dr who has neve rbeen known for its amazing special effects but this new lot is making red dwarfs effects look awsome and red dwarfs effects were deliberatly bad |
Re: Doctor Who
I think the makers of Dr Who realise that the story lines are weak, and the dialogue is to complicated to follow that they are making a big play on special effects in the hope of carrying the series forward. Matt Smith tries to play it for laughs, but his acting is woeful, it's almost like panto. I used to look forward to the Xmas shows......but they have been a none event.....time to regenerate I think and get some decent plot lines

Re: Doctor Who
matt smith wasnt too bad at first its this new writer hes absolutely clueless.
also the show seems to heavily rely on teh sonic screwdriver. It used to be a tool teh doctor occasionally used but now its teh star of teh show and is used for absolutely everything. coffee too cold ? not a problem the sonic screwdriver will sort that the sun is colliding into the earth you say ? just wave the sonic screwdriver at it lol seems sonic waves are usefull for anything these days lol yet he cant use sonic waves to shatter weeping angels made of stone ? |
Re: Doctor Who
oh my dear god its getting worse
not only was the tomtom joke totally irrellivant and had no place in the show it wasnt even funny no way on earth would an old time little boy from years ago speak like that if he had given acurate directions speaking normally or as a child would in those days then been thanked for his detailed directions and then saying he was called tom it may have been a little better but even so it does leave one wondering if this new writer thinks hes writing a sci-fi show or a disasterous B movie comedy ? IMPORTANT UPDATE ON SONIC SCREWDRIVER it now fixes poisonings by been shut in a locker with it on vibrate |
Re: Doctor Who
bring back christopher eccelstone :)

Re: Doctor Who
