Murder anniversary Today is the thirtieth anniversary of the kidnap of the Wolverhampton student who was heir to the Whittle Coach Company. Seventeen year-old Lesley Whittle, a student at Wulfrun College was abducted from her family home in Shropshire, and Donald Nielsen, known as the Black Panther, left a note demanding a £50,000 ransom for her return. After a series of police blunders and failed ransom drops, Lesley's body was eventually discovered 52 days later in a drain shaft in Bathpool Park, Kidsgrove, in Staffordshire. She died hanging by a steel wire round her neck. Nielsen was caught later that year and sentenced to life imprisonment in 1976.

I remember that day back in 74 when Nielsen murder the sub postmaster Derek Astin up Bash, I was working for Arnold Riley Bar fitters at the time who's workshop was behind the Victory Pub in Manny Road, I have never seen so many policemen in one place a one time before or since, every vehicle entering or leaving Manny road was stopped and its occupants questioned, I remember after he was eventually caught, every police officer who worked on the case received a black panther tie, think there was about 350 made at the time

Re: Black Panther

I worked with the daughter of the postmaster.
She, as a child, witnessed her father's murder.
When we get new members adding 'great' to a thread like this, it just demonstrates that some people have sick ideas about what is humour.

She lives locally as far as I am aware, so could be reading this.

Don't be so presumptuous folks, could be that Yinus meant great that Nielsen got life, but hasn't quite so formulated their response clearly. Act in haste & all that ! Should it be though that they are being insensitive & callous I too would condemn the post roundly

As you've said Marge, new members aren't always aware of the interplay & subtleties that underlie & run through a local forum so a gentle rebuke possibly would suffice or a pointing out the error of their ways via an adequate post, not immediate condemnation.

Everyone's entitled to a couple of mistakes surely ? Or are all new members to be soundly rounded upon because of their ignorance ? :)

A person who can't make their meaning clear should avoid posting, or take the consequences of being misconstrued (and so learn by their mistakes)

There was a saying I remember from younger days Dave, Their not all daft as slaver, so called new members may not be as new as you think they are;)

Just a point in case.

Admittedly Jay I know there's some on here who've had multiple accounts in the past & have caused problems, but after what, 9 posts a decision has been reached ? Marge I find your last comment somewhat brusque & abrasive, again I refer you to the link above, secondly I hope you never suffer any sort of ailment or a stroke that may affect your cogitative skills or ability to literate or you might just have to follow your own advice. And as you appear to enjoy contributing to the forum it would surely be a detrimental blow to your ability to partake.
