Stuart Hall, or Richard and Judy?

Having just mentioned a few old presenters from the BBC's Look North, in another thread, which local television news did you used to watch?

We were definitely a Look North/Stuart Hall household.

Granada Reports was as bad, and populist, as Magpie was, compared to Blue Peter.

Which side did you prefer watching?

Here's a list of old Look North presenters, even though it doesn't include David Davis.

BBC - North West Tonight - History - Where are they now?

I should qualify that statement.

Biggest laugh, other than at my own work.

Well I always used to watch Granada reports, especially when Lucy Meacock first came on the show, after the late Bob Greaves of course, but now I always watch BBC look north with Gordon Burns

We are lucky having two good regional news programmes some of the other regions are dire, I do like "Where's Fred"
Garinda, thanks for the lists

I used to watch Tony Wilson presenting Granada Reports, and only ever knew him for that. The whole Music Producer/Hacienda thing was a complete unknown to me.

By the way, Rob McLoughlin who used to present Granada Reports is now fronting a programmes on one of those dodgy satellite channels that shows Saturday afternoon Premiership football when you are on holiday in the Med.

Here's a mention for Bob Smithies of Granada. Off-screen he was a very intelligent and interesting chap-. he compiled crosswords as a hobby.

Anybody know what happened to Elton Welsby, used to be the sports reporter on Granada, he took over when Gerald Sinstadt, went to the BBC:confused:

He was presenting a football radio talk show on Century FM, which I think is based in Manchester. Not sure if he's still doing it...

Welsby is nowadays rarely involved in sports presenting, although he has recently been seen presenting Crown Green Bowls for Sky Sports. In recent times, Welsby has toured the country with Ricky Tomlinson in the theatre tour, An Evening with Ricky Tomlinson, where he interviews Tomlinson in character as Jim Royle.
