What was he last film you saw at the cinema?

Haven't been to the cinema for ages.

Thinking back, the last film i saw there was "Invictus" about the South African Rugby World Cup where SA wins, tied in with Nelson Mandela's story. Really interesting film which got you involved in the times and events. Wonderful performances by Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman.

Generally watch films on SKY though, occasionally, i wonder why we keep paying for it as there's nothing new. Last interesting film here was "The Fighter" -not usually my thing - about boxing and White Trash America, but it was based on a true story, without sentimentalism, and rang true. Great Christian Bale (oscar) and Mark Wahlberg (over-shadowed even though he was the "Star".

The last cinema I ever went in was the Princess Cinema in Edgar St, when it burnt down.
Can't see the point in going to a cinema to watch the latest film, just be patient & it will be on the box, then record it, & watch it at leisure.

The King's Speech at one of those multiplexes.

I was surprised how expensive it was, and the drinks and popcorn on sale were a rip off.

Enjoyed the film, though.

It's over 35 years since I last went to the cinema and that was at the Empire in Blackburn, which is now the Thwaites Empire Theatre.

I went to the premier of this, starring Fish, ten years ago. As I'd done some of the costumes for it.

It was dreadful.

I lost interest in going to the cinema years ago. I got fed up of the talkers, noisy popcorn eaters, mobile phone users, and being sat in front of someone who has put their knees in the back of my seat.

My last trip to the 'pictures' was to the old Odeon on Broadway, when it had been converted to house three screens.

The picture was Monty Python's Meaning of Life.
I had to leave during the restaurant vomiting scene.
I reckon nowt to paying to retch!

Last time I went to the cinema was in the late 70's (maybe early 80's) and saw the film "Soldier Blue" at Hull.

"Hamburger Hill" 1987  Not been the fliks since. I'd sooner wait & get the DVD, plus I can watch it in the comfort of my own home without being ripped off for drinks & nibbles or have to put up with other people being annoying or ruining the film.

Looks like most Accywebbers are not cinema-goers like me. I find the surround sound very off-putting and too noisy.

Went to the cinema in Hebden Bridge 2 years ago with my Aunt and Uncle. They show more alternative films, off the big Hollywood circuit, and some foreign language films with subtitles (we saw a really good french commedy). It's a small old-fashioned cinema and they have something called "Elevenses" where the film starts at 11am and you get a mug of tea or coffee to take in with you and biscuits -very civilised and a really enjoyable experience.
They came round with ice-creams at half time too!

Film does sound pretty dire - laugh a minute stuff.

Wondered how the Lovefilm thing worked - do you get a discount for doing your reviews?

Do they only do it for the UK? Bet they do...would be ideal for me otherwise. SKY is always showing repeats these days.:(

ET did too...in the film.

I'm not a big film fan........I am to 'antsy'(I wonder if I have ADHD)....I need to be doing, not sitting.

There are not many films that capture my imagination and attention, and certainly few that would warrant paying to go and see them.

Re: What was he last film you saw at the cinema?

Went to see a film on Sunday evening , not such a good choice available and we chose Woody Allen's latest film "Rome, I love you". I have enjoyed the last 3 of his films -probably because he wasn't actually in them (can't stand him as an actor) and they were different to all his others offerings.

Despite a decent cast it was absolutely dire -call it a commedy -maybe they find that kind of thing funny in the US:rolleyes:
Totally ridiculous storylines and very unreal characters -if you fancy going to the cinema -don't waste your money on this one.

(As an aside it was a big disaster from start to finish -went the whole hog with cokes and popcorn -husband tipped half the bucket on the floor immediately and managed to spill his coke down himself too. We are not expert cinema-goers obviously:D)

Re: What was he last film you saw at the cinema?

Last thing I saw at cinema was a dinosaur documentary in 3D. It was as the IMAX in Bradford. 50FT screen!!!

The experience at IMAX is awesome. Really want to go there and watch a full film in 3D. Still can't get over the size of the screen. The 3D effects work very well on such a big screen. One bit a guy shoveled dirt into the camera lens and at least 20 people went "urrrruh" including myself. It was like having dirt thrown in ya face.

Not quite the cinema but yesterday as there was nothing interesting on TV early evening decided to buy on SKY Pay per view Woody Allen's film "Midnight in Paris." He is only the director in this one, it has a great cast and I loved the storyline and of course Paris is a beatiful backdrop to any film. Was so good i watched it first in Italian (husband doesn't follow English) and then through again straight away in English!:)

Last one was "Motorcycle Diaries" ... and before that "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly." Don't much like movie theaters; you can't have a beer, or a smoke, or a toke. No fun. Should never have bothered with "Motorcycle Diaries" ... for me, "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" was the defining movie:rolleyes:;)

I know what you mean about sweltering ... we've been having heat wave conditions for a couple of weeks now ... not quite as bad as the yanks are having it, but close. It got so bad down there with the power outages that Ontario sent hydro crews down to help clean up the mess. I guess that's what neighbours do, eh;) To more or less get back on topic, the weather has been so weird here that it feels like we are living in the early stages of some cheap Hollywood disaster movie:D Here follows some info which you probably have already figured out for yourself:

Oh ... drink lots of cold beer. Smoke a joint. Makes even garbage movies palatable. I watched "Same Time Next Year" last nite ... and actually enjoyed it:eek:

Oooh! Eric -you are such an old fashioned romantic at heart!:o:D

My mum drove us mad for years listening to Jonny Mathis - even took dad to one of his concerts for his birthday present once!

Still battling with the heat here - my eldest took me to do the shopping earlier -I still can't drive and am using a crutch. Took me about an hour sitting under a fan to get over the heat-stroke - the Coop was freezing cold with air-con full blast and the contrast outside was scary! Serious risk of heart attack...

Wish my roses were lovely and bloomin' like the ones in your video -my garden has died off and looks like a desert -only my Oleander has survived me being away recently - non of my men thought it necessary to water the flowers:mad:

I watched Warhorse on TV (Pay per view again) the other evening. Was incredibly disappointed - had heard people rave over it. All far too chocolate boxy for me - Spielberg's portrayal of WW1 was not a patch on WW2 in Saving Private Ryan. Got the feeling it was a film for children -a bit too Disney for my liking.

My Gran was a huge fan of Jolson and B&W minstrels in general - was the music of her youth. I tried to find a decent rendition of "Mammy" which was her big favourite but could only see the one from the recent version of The Jazz Singer.

Sorry to hear you were disappointed, 'cause I'm seriously thinking of going to see the stage version at the Princess of Wales Theatre in TO. It looks real good.

I just found it to be too "glossy" somehow -the horses are brilliant in it -probably the best actors!

Spielberg had his rose-tinted specs on when he made this one...
