Forum Software Upgraded

I have just upgraded us to the latest version of vBulletin. There are several new features, though I'm not exactly sure of them myself. So have a look around and let me know if something is not functioning as it should.

One of the changes are the social group aspects which you can all access using the 'community' link up above.

no community link on the blue theme Gents!

There are 2 "Chat room" links but one has no sub menu.

Blue theme does not get updated.

Re: Forum Software Upgraded

OK, fair does but at work I still get issues with red freezing without painting the screen past the grey background, probably our firewall which scans and tweaks all scripting. I also get issues with Blue on IE(5.5) wher todays post link throws the 10 second error more often than not.

Re: Forum Software Upgraded

Not right keen on the new upgrade, nw one third is off screen on the
right, I've noticed several other sites have gone the same way, assuming that everyone has a wide screen monitor.

Dammed annoying, having to keep shoving that little rat round the mat,
to see which forum your on.

Re: Forum Software Upgraded

Just what I said in the thread 'Slow' ... when you are off line the 'Today's Post' 'aint there .. have to go into each forum, which takes ages.

May put a lot of potential lurkers off from coming on line as a member.

Heres the screen shots, only been like this since yesterday so I assume its the upgrade that has changed it, the Hone - new Post - UserCP used to be at the top of the page, all the blog links have been added since the upgrade.
As you can see it takes up half the 1st page in portrait mode, takes all the screen when in landscape.

what do you mean retlaw? Usually software works on percentage width of the screen so if your screen is 1024 wide its that wide, on mine its 1920 pixels wide. it shold make no difference whasoever.

My viewable screen size is 13.25 inches wide x 10.625 inches high,
a quarter of what I used to view, before the upgrade, is now offside.
Lots of web sites have now done this, its The bill gates syndrome,
make every one get a wide screen. tried one, I only gained an inch
in height, got fed up with it for so little gain, so I gave it my daughter.
Just tried altering them pixel thingy's I now need a magnifying glass
to read the print.

ah, I think you have it set up as extended desktop so your monitor is a 'window' on a larger 'virtual' desktop. It should just need reconfiguring. I'm off friday If you want me to pop round and do it?

Thanks Ian.

Can you describe what you mean, the screen size is as I've always
had it on all the computers I've ever had, I thought they set
themselves up when you plugged them in. Did'nt even know I had a
larger virtual desktop. I'm going back in time to kill that gates.

Hi Ian
Attached are a few sample shots of what I mean as to
screen width taken from other sites I visit.
All readable in the screen, whilst Accy Web has a quarter offside.
Notice rat bar along bottom of sreen on Accy Web, have to use
it to read which forum the thread is in.

I've tried other sizes of resolution now on 1280 x 600 every thing is stretched vertical, needd a magnifier to read some of the fonts, plus I need to adjust the screen thats one off to one side, going back to
my original settings.

Neil 31-01-2009 17:20

Re: Forum Software Upgraded

if you are 1280 wide you should be 960 high if your monitor is a standard 4:3
1280 / 4 = 320
320 * 3 = 960

That should stop things being stretched

Neil 31-01-2009 17:22

Re: Forum Software Upgraded

I have just tried Accyweb on my netbook in both red and blue skins and it works fine at 1024 wide. You use 1026 by 768 on a standard 4:3 monitor

The relationship between horizontal and vertical pixels is one of those "obvious when pointed out" sort of things many people don't think about.

I run mine at 1440 by 900 because I have a 16:10 22" wide screen monitor

heh, I run mine at 1920 x 1200 :D

Retlaw, are you all sorted or do you need me to pop in still?

I can see your problem, however don't appear to be able to duplicate it? I'm on Accyweb on my iphone now and the blogs do not appear, whether I log in or out. I don't really use the mobile theme, am I missing something?

Its a lot better now, never played with those settings before. Now I wish I'd kept the monitor I gave to my daughter. I'll have to get another.

No but seriously, I think if you run at 800x600 then the screen will not be able to cope, 1% of users here still run at that though. Of course websites are getting wider and bigger, as technology moves on, I actually couldn't imagine using a 800x600 monitor any more!

I did some digging, and it turns out Roy disabled the search feature for guests to try and improve the server strain. Today's Posts uses search so that's why the link has gone. Hopefully it will be re-enabled as soon as the server problems are sorted.

Just switched to mobile style now and also gone through some of the source and can't find any reference to the blog, or any problems.. The style was probably altered during the blog upgrade so I will check the xml files and see what I can find. Out of interest, which mobile browser are you using?
