Possible error pages...

I'm about to do some hardcore serious code changes here on Accringtonweb. You may well during the next hour or so recieve various error messages, as what I am doing is trial and error and very complicated*.

*read - roy doesn't quite know what he's doing, but he's going for it anyway :)

hehe... it's not quite that hardcore.. But for those that are interested I am attempting to convert our dynamicly generated urls into .html files so that the search engines have more fun on our site :)

Ok what do I need to do? I can only access the last post in each section it comes up with File Not Found, cleared cookies, logged off, logged back in, switched off computer, switched back on, any ideas please?

Not Found

The requested URL /home/accringt/public_html/forum/forumdisplay.php was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I was online late last night (still sulking because I couldn't make it to the accyweb meet) and there was over 200 guests viewing accyweb is the new changes the reason for this?

Roy 27-03-2005 16:27

Re: Possible error pages...

Probably, the search engines will have to completely go over our site again, the search engine spiders do show up as guests.
They should also like it much better than they used to :)

Re: Possible error pages...

Roy,
Why not test any changes on a backup site rather than playing with the main one? Surely that would be the safest way of doing it.

Oh and the javascript mouseovers on the menus are borked. You get the image change on mouseover but it doesn't reset when you move off.

Re: Possible error pages...

I did all changes with a backup site, but then I had to integrate it with the main site.. Also, I'm not an expert with mod_rewrite so there was a bit of trial and error involved, and to get the mod_rewrite right it had to be done on the live server :)

They seem to work fine for me in both IE and Firefox...

Re: Possible error pages...

The mouseovers work fine for me too in Firefox and IE. I was going to post about them actually because I really love that feature. It looks so smart. :)

There's just one little technicality in the bar where the "home" "forum" "asfc" etc links are - if you have the page too narrow they slip out of the blue background and sit on top of the line.

A slight bug I have noticed while in the bank Roy.
There are links for deposit and withdraw points instead of Ackers

Neil 27-03-2005 21:22

Re: Possible error pages...

And I think that richest users list ignores your dosh in the bank and only uses whats in your pocket.

Just checked and it only counts whats in your pocket. Sounds like a security risk

WillowTheWhisp 27-03-2005 21:46

Re: Possible error pages...

It did that before with the previous bank.

Re: Possible error pages...

I did not notice, then again I don't usually hang around much in banks, never have anything to put in them.

Re: Possible error pages...

Roy it seems to come and go, maybe my norton?
If I click on the forum title I get
Not Found

The requested URL /home/accringt/public_html/forum/forumdisplay.php was not found on this server.

but I can click on the last post and get to that thread, I also went to the front page (home) and got in to some threads that way, weird or what?

Very strange.. I cannot seem to replicate the fault. I have installed Norton security and everything is still ok. The file that the error message is looking for is definately there, as is the error document.

I've just looked through my error logs and it appears people are getting errors of this type, but this is due to the fact that they are entering the site on an old temporary url. You must access this site via the www.accringtonweb.com url and not through www.luxweb.co.uk

Have you been using the luxweb url?

Bazf 28-03-2005 13:24

Re: Possible error pages...

Sorry Roy took a while to get back to you, I left my bookmark and was accessing it through that so yes it was luxweb!!!!!!!! now seems fine Thanks for your help.

Must just be Konqueror then. I'll do a bit of debugging when I get chance.
