parenting...

I must admit im baby mad since having Jack but also am forever searching the web for baby things that are for sale, hints and tips on various subjects eg teething, weaning etc and other parents opinions on matters concerning children....just an idea but how about a parenting forum?

How smashing that you love your baby so much .. obviously super Mum Miss Kitty. Problem is that so many old wives tales related re. babies and even medical opinions change, so much that confusion can reign at the end of the day; you have to follow your own instincts at times. Not suggesting you don't get professional opinions from the clinics though.
For example teething: There is no reason why a child should suffer any discomfort with this normal development and any symptoms like temperature, restlessness, sniffles should not always be put down to this, as most people would diagnose .. see what I mean .. could be slightly dangerous.

I think it’s a good idea, although some will argue that it’s not a related subject to Accrington life. I would say that there are many mums and dads out there who aren’t as well equipped as most and often shearing a concern openly and anomalously can make the difference between successful, enjoyable parenting and misery and concern.

That said a forum should never be an alternative to seeking appropriate professional advice.

What I will say if such a discussion group was raised it may well help many people and may even promote understanding and care. Anything that helps those who might need guidance make the right decisions is justifiable.

Not in disagreement here Doug .. spent many useful hours with other Mum's comparing notes when my kids were babies, just to be careful of incorrect advice.

Oh No Kitty .. not at all, sorry if 'I' gave the wrong impression :( Just picked up on the advice you can get incorrectly, etc ... understand what Doug is saying re. wrong type of forum here, however, any specific worries would be addressed by all these lovely people and information and help would coming pouring in. xx

Kitty I disagree, there is no reason why the suggestion you made should be construed as been anything but helpful, and it’s a good idea that undoubtedly help others facing motherhood or farther hood for the first time. I am surprised that more mothers/parents haven’t responded to this post.

All that I think we are saying is that at certain times the right advise can only be taken from those appropriately qualified to give it and in that circumstance I mean medical problems etc.

But I agree that there is nothing better than experience and being able to compare notes with those who have something to offer. What you are asking is something that our grandparents took for granted; they had closer communities that offered advice and support without question, criticism or sigma. We’ve lost that sense of community in the country, but there’s nothing wrong in wanting to change things for the better.

The calm room has been a bit quiet lately, if you want we could arrange Tuesday mornings as the accyweb creche and drop in centre where all you new mums can meet and discuss your little ones, I must point out though that if you want your little mites to sleep through the morning you will have to put your own Guinness in their bottles as it will take a while to get the place licenced!
:beer58:

Hmmm, I wonder if we could get a grant for this?

Erm, Gayle do you have a minute? I'd just like your advice on something.

My girls are way past the baby stage but it's always good to pass on useful information to others such as child friendly locations etc.
