VIP thread

Maybe incorrect title. Just wondered if we had any use of inviting particular guests to put up a thread or answer any issues that have been puzzling us.

Know lots of wonderful knowledgeable people on here who do the research and gives us lots of good answers or history backgrounds to our town, but sometimes still hanging with unanswered information.

Although, many members don't actively participate on the threads, do have lots of 'lurkers' who probably just love to read them. So, in a way, have lots of readers as per a newpaper!!

Can be anybody from Peter Britcliffe on a HBC question to a marketing executive of the Barracuda Group who own the Calder (See Mez's thread).
Local historians to engineers on the state of our buildings. Hope you understand what I am trying to say:rolleyes: Might even be able to persuade a well-known pop musician to answer any of Shaker's thougts.

Can you really see people like Peter Britcliffe being stupid enough to post on here using his real name (now there's a thought, I wonder if he uses another name). The abuse he would get. Remember the stick that Gayle got when she first joined.

Ok. Not good example. Was only meaning could be invited in on a Guest Thread to answer a particular issue. Eric Whalley (that right Shaker ?) could make a statement now and then as lots of Stanley fans on here. Not permanent, but as Mick has pointed out would flout the first rule of the site, you have to be a member to post on here, which is fair enough.

Anyway, Gayle can look after herself and she also loves all aspects of Accyweb, beside the political discussions.

I still get stick!

We've talked about this before and I actually think it's a good idea and I would love to have a debate with Peter. But can't see it happening.

Of course it won't.
He's conservative.
He thinks he is above everybody else with his fat smug mug plastered all over the Observer every week The ultimate in cringe.

Re: VIP thread

Surely you can just open up a guest board for v.i.p's if a prior arrangement has been made and then close it off again when they have gone and members can open a new thread on the specific subject discussed.

The closeing of forums to guests is to stop spamming, but i am sure the accyweb police can do their jobs efficiently to stop any of that.

Re: VIP thread

I think it could work - it did when I joined and I opened a thread and invited questions and said when I would be back to answer them all. It took me over four hours on that first night to answer all the questions!
